When Buck was over for a game day we ended up playing a few games of Boomerang: USA.
I am always up for some Boomerang! I definitely love the US version of the game (which is also now on BGA) and trying to get that across the country bonus for the end of the game.
The game was going pretty well for me, but Buck was ON IT in the final round. We ended up TIED for the win, but that wasn't good enough for Buck so we ended up playing AGAIN!
Man, I love back-to-back games of roll n writes! I am always up for it!
In the second game, Michael figured out what was good and really started hate drafting like it was his job. He completely crushed us with 120 points. I was totes last with 86.
My problem was that I was trying to take tons of risks, and that didn't pay off at all. Sometimes it's worth it.
One of my favorite roll n writes since I just love drafting cards. So much fun!
One night I was up for some games, and while Dan and I were waiting on others, we decided to check out Sobek: 2 Players. New to me!
This showed up in Alpha form, so not yet released to everyone unless you have access to the Alpha games.
It was seriously well implemented though so I anticipate it changing from Alpha to Beta shortly.
I haven't played Sobek the original so I am not sure how to compares to this new 2 Player version.
It looks like Sobek was for 2-4 players and now this new edition is ONLY 2 players.
Since Dan and I were at the 2-player count, I knew I wanted to try it.
This game is all about strategically placing the marker to give your opponent fewer and less ideal choices for their turn all while claiming tiles that are best for your sets.
Each turn you will collect a new tile as an action, or you can sell a set, or you can use a special action tile you have collected.
It is pretty simple, but it is a very nice game. I had a great time playing it. There were several turns that Dan and I didn't want to move the pawn, so we just sold sets and used action tiles so we wouldn't have to move the pawn to take the garbage tiles that were available at the time.
As with many great games, timing is everything. It works well and I will definitely be looking to pick this one up in the near future.
In a recent a sync game we decided to play Beyond the Sun and it just made me want to play a LIVE version so I asked to play it one night. it ended up as a 4 player game with Scott, Derek, and Dan.
I am just not very good at this game. I think my problem is that I don't focus on certain goals or if I do I get lost once I accomplish those goals.
In this game, I was all about being the Warlord and focused on getting all my ships out so I could colonize etc. My problem was not being able to research techs faster and efficiently so I got caught up with that for the second half of the game and I really should have just been focused on ruling the open space area instead of putting energy into the tech tree.
As a result, I totally didn't win. Dan won with 53 and I was actually second place with 43 where Derek was 38 and Scott was 34.
I was a bit lost in the second half of the game but found some good techs to use and managed to get a few end goals completed, though I was one colony short of getting another end goal finished. I just needed a few turns.
I really like this game and I am excited it is so easy to play on BGA. Check it out on BGA if you haven't because it is great!
Since we needed a quick game to learn and I hadn't played this super cute donut game, the time had come to learn Go Nuts for Donuts. New to me!
I had heard about this one but never got to try it. Gotta love BGA for bringing us all these games to try!
This donut game is a light-set collection game with some simultaneous selection.
You will want to collect pastries. There is a line-up of cards and you will select the matching number from your hand. If no one matches you then you will collect it for your sets. If someone matches you then no one will claim the card.
Each type of card will have a different way to score or have a specific action that happens when it is collected.
A very simple game to try and get the most points.
In our game, I took some risks to collect a bunch of random cards that no one would want. It was working, but then I started matching everyone. Scott wasn't really taking many risks since he didn't want the 0 points for one type of card.
Turns out I was a winner with 25 points and Shrey 16 and Scott had 9. I think they ended up canceling a bunch of times at the end so it worked out for me.
I really enjoyed this quick filler! Definitely will be playing this more on BGA!
