RPG Spotlight #7: The One Ring

From gallery of Farydia

You might have noticed this new thing that sometimes invades the front page posts: The RPG Spotlight Event. The aim of the event is to increase activity on the site - and of course to provide some fun activities for anyone participating. Every three weeks, a new RPG from the database will be chosen to step into the spotlight.

The Spotlight is currently on The One Ring (1st Ed.). The event is aimed explicitly both at people already playing The One Ring (both First and Second edition, that is just coming out, well, now-ish) and folks who are just curious and want to learn more about a game they currently know little or nothing about.

There is a new thread every few days until the spotlight moves on to the next RPG. Which doesn't mean you cannot participate in older posts, too, of course!

What's going on right now?

The following is an overview of the threads created for the current RPG Spotlight - so check them out and see if something catches your interest:

As in every RPG Spotlight, I would first encourage everyone to say hello to their fellow geeks first: [RPG Spotlight] Who are you?

Once you've done that, you can browse around and ask or answer miscellaneous questions that come up in the Newbie Thread. Don't be shy, there is no such thing as a dumb question and there's lots of interesting topics in there already!

With Second Edition by Free League Publishing around the corner, here's where you can discuss how excited (or not) you are about the new edition: [RPG Spotlight] Are you excited for Second Edition? Or loyal to the First?.

Looking for adventure modules to play around with? Then according to this thread you can't go wrong with any of those out there - so check out which module fits which tastes!

Want to try out some adventuring in Middle-Earth all by yourself? Or have done so in the past? Then here's the place to go for you: [RPG Spotlight] A Fellowship of One – Solo Experiences!

There will be more threads going up during the next week, so keep an eye out on the front page - or subscribe to The One Ring!

What's up on the Horizon?

How do you get notified about new threads in the event? There is of course the possibility to subscribe to the RPG in question, but you can also check the front page for new forum posts: Posts created for these events are always headlined with [RPG Spotlight], so you'll be able to find them easily when browsing the 'geek.

You can also subscribe to the RPG Spotlight Event Tracker or watch this News Channel!

If you want to contribute more to the event - just post your own questions, ideas or Tavern Game! There is a cross promotion with the 2021 Annual Geek Review Challenge - so write some reviews for extra points over there. Or maybe now is the time to start that PbF you always wanted to run for The One Ring? Use the spotlight to promote your game and fill these virtual tables!

The RPG Spotlight will go on a kind of hiatus over Christmas and New Year's Eve, so there is no poll for the next game today. But no need to turn the internet off over the holidays: I will host a special Spotlight Event for the 24 Hour RPG Contest! As of today, you can still send in your vote for one of the twelve entries and once the winners are announced, the Contest and its Winners will feature in this RPG Spotlight Special Event! Chat with the designers, get extra GG for rating, commenting and reviewing and have fun with those short and sweet RPG designs brought to you by your fellow geeks. Stay tuned, more info once the Special Event is about to start!
