Come play games at Newcastle Gamers!
The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.
It's been another good weekend of gaming - In the Year of the Dragon, Betrayal at House on the Hill, Kingsburg all got played on Saturday at my friend Ben's. Then Android, Kaigan and Trias and the club in Newcastle afterwards. Then, on Sunday, a quick game of San Juan with my fiancé before friends arrived in the evening for Rattus, Hey, That's My Fish! and finished off with a great game of Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game. My fiancé joined us for Battlestar and was a bit annoyed that we'd played Hey! That's My Fish without her (it's her favorite game), which resulted in me and her playing a quick game after the others had left in order to quench her gaming thirst!
Out of all the games I played, some being stalwart companions to my gaming evenings, and others being new experiences, the one that stood out the most was Kingsburg. It was my first time playing (I lost as well), but I really enjoyed everything about it - from the dice mechanics to the beautiful board. I came home on Saturday evening raving about it and how much I wanted to own a copy. However, I've recently acquired Mr. Jack in New York, and two expansions for Lord of the Rings. Well, that and I'm waiting on some money coming through from an eBay auction that will give me enough to buy Mansions of Madness! So, as you might expect, my other half played out the "you've bought too many games, you should look after your money" routine, to which I sullenly had to agree that she was quite right and I should wait a while before buying anything else.
What could possibly make this better you ask? Only the fact that she's gone out and bought Kingsburg for me!! After gushing about it and how it would make a reasonable 2-player game for us that can accomodate more people for our gaming nights, she thought it was a good idea to buy it and said she had been wanting to get me something for a while. Well, I was blown away. Best surprise present ever...I can't wait to get it onto our table!
