Games, games and more games!
There were 5 of us, but Marion was a few minutes later than the rest, so we started with a game of The Bucket King. For the second game in a row, my buckets just didn't want to stay in a pyramid formation, and I rapidly found myself with a small row of them. I was out shortly, and Sami followed me very quickly, as I'd taken out most of his pyramid by repeatedly playing yellows at him, many of them quite high! Richard was very happy to win the game.
Next came Vegas Showdown. It was a bizarre game in many ways. For once I didn't get all the early slots, but Sami of all people did, and made a line across his board of slots and fancy slots. Meanwhile I had my person marker really high, but my income was still really low, thanks to just a couple of slots. Marion meanwhile was going for green buildings in a big way, and picked up some real bargains, and lots of triangle points. At the end she won, and was very happy to do so!
Next came El Grande, after a reasonably long discussion process. In the the first three rounds all the scoring cards came, two or three a round, so everyone rapidly moved off the start line. I seemed to do particularly well early on, picking up lots of second and third place bonuses, as well as scoring my Grande region, and after the scoring round at the end of Round 3 I was on about 60 points, while everyone else was only on about 30. However, then the "pick on the leader" part of the game occurred, and over the next three rounds I was picked on heavily, and at the end of round 6 scoring was still only about 10 points further along, and everyone else had caught me up, with Sami in the lead by about 10 points. There was a big fight for points in the last three rounds, and as the board got fuller, more and more cubes were thrown in the Castillo, as there was nowhere useful to put them adjacent to the King. I finished the game just 2 points ahead of Sami, with all the others close behind.
After that we were all up for something lighter, so I suggested Ca$h 'n Gun$. In the first round there were far too many guns pointing at me, so I ducked out, and there was one bang pointing at me courtesy of Richard, so it was probably wise, although the rest were clicks - but the other four were unable to share out the money. Second round and this time it was Richard's turn to have the guns pointing his way, and he ducked out, leaving the rest of us to share the money. Third round and this time the guns went James' way. He decided not to duck - unfortunately for him, three of them were bangs, so he died instantly. Richard then revealed his power, and took James' gun, and had two guns for the remainder of the game. The next three rounds were fairly tame, with the odd bang, and money being shared in various ways. Then the last round Sami had the guns pointing at him, but knowing he had his Bang Bang Bang card played, decided to stay in, and killed me, and none of the guns pointed at him went off, so he survived. Counting up at end game and Richard was ahead, followed by Sami, and then Marion with very little money, but at least she was still alive!
We let James pick the last game, as he'd missed half the previous one, and he picked his favourite end of evening game - Ave Caesar. First lap, on the red board, and it was surprisingly tame, with Sami failing to pit on either lap, but everyone else finishing, and Marion celebrated at the end for her first ever race win in Ave Caesar! Next race and Marion started out in the lead - and stayed there. I went past her to get rid of my own 6s, but she was still left with one, and ended up crashing and burning on the home straight with just a 6 left in hand. James meanwhile haad failed to pit, and so although he finished the race third, was beheaded afterwards. Third race was fairly tame, on the yellow side again, and everyone made it home, with Sami in the lead for the second race in a row. The fourth race, on the red track again, was the most dramatic. James was the one out in the lead for most of the game this time, and struggled to get rid of his 6s, and crashed and burned on the inside track of the last corner. I, not expecting that, hadn't played my last 6 the previous turn as it would put me round the outside, and so crashed and burned just short of the finish line shortly after. Sami and Marion, having been forced round the outside of the bend, both had insufficient cards to get to the finish line, so Richard was left to finish the race, despite being at the back of the pack, for the only points in the race. The 10 points for this were enough to win him the game, and he was very happy with his first Ave Caesar win, and the third game win that night for him!
