Welborn Family Gaming

Welcome to Larry and Melissa's blog. We focus on two player gaming and gaming with our two children, ages 12 & 14. This blog will feature random musings, gaming reports and reviews from both of us. We will also post some non-gaming thoughts from time to time. Feel free to join in the discussions.

Tonight we taught Daughter how to play Dominion. I think that our recent plays of Eminent Domain and playing Ascension: Deckbuilding Game online really helped her grasp the concepts. It didn't take too long to ecplain the game and we only had to offer a couple of suggestions early.

This was our 236 playing of a game I rate as a 10.

Melissa selected the Big Money setup. After going through each card, we were ready to play.

Melissa started with Bureaucrat and then mostly bought money. Son had a 5/2 start and went with Mine Chapel but didn't really understand how to use chapel.

Daughter copied Melissa. I turned a Feast into a Lab and tried to get Labs and Markets.

The Bureaucrats kept clogging my deck so I snagged a chapel and stripped my deck. Changing strategy mid-game is usually a bad move and this time was not an exception.

I got my decked tuned just as Melissa had clogged her deck and I started to gain but she nabbed the last Province to end the game.

Final scores: Melissa 30, Larry 27, Son and Daughter 22.

Both children played surprisingly well and I think with a few games under their belt will be able to be quite competitive in a casual game. They both bought too many terminal actions despite gentle suggestions against this, but will soon learn while this isn't optimal. They certainly played better than Melissa and I did in our first game a few years ago.
