PAX East turned out to be an amazing and wild show. There were many people to meet and a lot of great news. We recorded more than 30 interviews of both board games and digital products. My overall impression was the strategy and tactical gaming is a big focus for many companies this year.

In order to manage the huge volume I have split the videos into three categories:

-Part 1: Digital Original Board Games
-Part 2: Awesome Strategy/Tactics Indies (Coming 4/5/13)
-Part 3: Board Game to Digital Ports (Coming 4/8/13)

Our Other PAX Coverage:

- PAX Panel Digital Board Games
- Big News Stories from PAX

PAX East Part 1: Digital Original Board Games

Blizzard
At the very final moments of PAX I was able to get an interview with the HearthStone Development team at Blizzard. I am really glad they took the time, and I was able to ask them a few key questions. I had the chance to play Hearthstone a few times and it seems like an interesting card game. The Blizzard team all appeared to be huge board game and BGG fans so hopefully we will see some of that love in the final product.

Neocolonialism
I was able to sit down with Seth to check out his new game Neocolonialism. It is lauded as a strategy game that has simple rules but requires a knowledge of real world economics to succeed. It then has the inverse effect of teaching you about this topic through repeated play.
You can get it here.

82 Apps
Fan favorite New World Colony was really a pioneer in “early” iOS board games. It was great to check in with Erik again and see his sweet PWN setup. He also spills the beans on what’s coming for New World Colony in the video below.

Flying Helmet
This was a project I stumbled upon during my final hours of PAX East. It is a table top RPG that uses tablets for each player and a center tablet for group info. Check out the video for more info.

Dancing Sorcerer Games
I was able to meet with the gentlemen from Dancing Sorcerer games to discuss their new title Road of Kings. It is a single player sort of random encounter game. You play the role of a barbarian on a quest. The game uses a follower system to increase your strength rather than a leveling system. Watch the video below for more details.

Lords of New York
Adventure games have taken several forms on iOS. This one, available on many platforms, focuses on Poker matches to drive the story forward. It is an interesting concept and you can read more below.
You can support this on Kickstarter here.

Shenandoah Studios
Fresh off our panel at PAX East, the team from Shenandoah Studios lays out their current success and their plans for the future.

Threadbare Games
Zach walks us through his excellent first release Shifts and gives a preview of his next game. Check out the video below for the first footage of their upcoming game.
You can get Shifts here.

Ravenmark: Mercenaries
Ravenmark is one of my favorite iOS TBS games. Without a large studio or IP behind it, it is one of the deepest and most complete games on mobile. They have continued to update the game with more and more content (of course now the story is complete). They are following this up with a sequel that is multiplayer focused. Check it out in the video.
You can get the original Ravanemark here.

Ubisoft
We mentioned this upcoming card game several months ago. Well, it is now available on PC and will soon be out on iOS. It appears to be a lane based system as with many recent CCG models. If you are a fan of the Might and Magic property, be sure to check this out upon release.
