XCOM: Enemy Within Coming to Mobile Tonight
You may have noticed (I hope you noticed) that I haven't been posting much this week. Oh, wait, let me rephrase that. I haven't posted at all this week. Unfortunately, real life has reared it's wizened head lately and I haven't been on top of things the way that you, hopefully, expect me to be. It might be a little bit before things die down, but I promise that I'll be at full strength as the App Store ramps up to the holiday season, which is always full of news to pass along.
Anyway, we had some surprise news hit today that I wanted to make sure I passed along so the BGG readers weren't in the dark. Last year, XCOM: Enemy Unknown came to iPad amongst a lot of hype and it turned out that the hype was justified as it won our Gold Award for Strategy Game of the Year for 2013.
Since its release, there had been much speculation whether the excellent expansion pack, XCOM: Enemy Within, would ever make its way to mobile as well. Today we learned that it will, coming to both iOS Universal and Android devices as a separate app. That's right, it's not IAP within the original app, but completely separate and will cost $13.
If you're not familiar with Enemy Within, it's pretty much just like XCOM: Enemy Unknown with a whole bunch of new stuff. There are new maps, new weapons and aliens, a new resource and all sorts of new ways to augment your squad. On top of all that, there is also a new faction of human enemies that are alien sympathizers which cause a whole lot of havoc as well.
At this point in time, XCOM: Enemy Within doesn't appear to be on the New Zealand App Store. So, we're not sure exactly when it's going to hit. If not tonight, then keep your eyes open for it to appear sometime tomorrow.
Regular coverage of board game experiences on mobile, PC/MAC, Console and more.
