Bezier Games Takes Us to the Castles of Mad King Ludwig
We met with designer Ted Alspach at the Bézier Games booth to see how the app for Castles of Mad King Ludwig was coming along. Turns out it's coming along very nicely, and we even got a chance to see it in action.
The camera ape wishes to apologize for the weird angles and such, but both Ted Alspach and Brad are quite tall, and the camera guy was burdened with a rather short monopole for his camera. That's the storyI'mhe's sticking to.
Stronghold Games Gives Us a Digital Update
Not a ton of new news from Stronghold Games, but we did get a Survive: Escape from Atlantis! update as well as news that Core Worlds is in beta and progressing nicely.
If that's not enough for you, watch the video anyway. It's got Stephen Buonocore who is, quite possibly, the most charismatic guy in gaming. Well, after Brad. Brad is the most charismatic. Don't fire me.
R&R Games Talks About a Ton of Digital Products
We met with R&R Games at the end of Day 1 of the con, and we were both pretty tired. Well, Brad was tired, I was a rock and performed my duties to the upmost of my abilities. Okay, that's a lie. I was a whimpering child by 6pm on that first day.
Anyway, R&R has a ton of stuff going on in the digital world. Helper apps as well as full games like 1st & Goal. Lots going on in this vid.
Cryptozoic Shows Off Hex: Shards of Fate (Again)
We saw Hex: Shards of Fate at last year's Gen Con, and Cryptozoic Entertainment was there again showing it off. It's been out for PC/Mac for a bit now, and keeps growing, but is coming to tablets down the road.
Hex is a Massively Multiplayer Online CCG, and is just getting some great PvE content to really make it feel like an MMO. It's free to play for PC/Mac now, and you can get more information in the video.
BattleKasters Creates a Convention-Wide Scavenger Hunt
It was late on our last day at the convention when we were scheduled to meet with something called BattleKasters. I think it's fair to say that both Brad and myself weren't expecting too much out of this interview. What we found, however, was that we shouldn't judge a book by its cover. BattleKasters turned out to be pretty darn cool.
Created by author Alane Adams, the game is based on the world of her fantasy novel, The Red Sun. Now, this isn't a game that you can download and play just anywhere. It only worked while you were at Gen Con. Her tech team had planted small transponders all over the convention hall and programmed them to correspond to different locations in the book. You would use the free app on your phone to locate areas and collect spells and other items which you would use to affect other players as they wandered around the halls. The goal was to finish the hunt as fast as possible, with leaderboards posted at the BattleKasters site.
While you can't just play this whenever you like, they are taking the game to many different conventions so, if you're attending a con somewhere, check to see if BattleKasters is running there.
