Over the past year (give or take) the elegant German card game as really come onto my radar. These are of course exactly what you might expect -- card games by (mostly) German designers with simple rules and interesting game play, but not terribly deep. Some examples include:

* Abluxxen
* Potato Man
* Absacker
* Fünf Gurken
* Tricky Bid
* Arboretum
* Habe fertig

Granted, not all of these were created in the past year, but I did become aware of them in the past year. Likewise, not every game is by a German designer (e.g. Absacker, Arboretum), but the meaning of "German" is mean in the original way that "German board game" was used pre and post-Catan. And of course, there are historical instances of this genre like Coloretto, Sticheln, The Bottle Imp, etc.

The more that I look into this (albeit made-up) genre, I find myself wanting more!

Recommendations welcomed.

Update: accompanying GeekList at "German" card fillers.
