Hey there Kickers, and welcome to this weeks edition of Kick the Table. Last week I picked up my copies of Vault Wars and Epic Resort and they look amazing. I wish I had a second set of the coins from Vault Wars because they are some of the nicest coins I've ever seen in a game. Well done Floodgate Games.

Right now there's a whopping 261 live Kickstarter Campaigns in the Tabletop Games category (up 7 from last week). Of those 92 (35.25%) are fully funded and 76 have related BGG pages that I can find. Let us dive in.

Here are some campaigns that are ending in the next week:
In A Bind Junior - the original In a Bind is a simple party game where each turn you must draw a card and do what it says FOREVER! Or at least until the end of the game. If ever you can't follow the directions on the card you are out of the game. The Junior version is targeted at a younger audience. In A Bind Junior removes some of the more frustrating cards (for 4 year olds) and adds more animal noises and all new art.
Agility - is a resource and action management game for 2 (up to 4 with a variant) players where the players are competing to run their dogs through agility training. Each player adopts up to 3 dogs, each of which requires a certain amount of training and is good at a particular type of obstacle. Each turn players will play a card out of their hand which will generate resources used to move dogs through obstacles and will also move a marker around a rondel giving a bonus action. It's possible to acquire tokens to adjust the rondel marker to alter your reward for taking actions.
The 7th Continent - Explore a mysterious island to try and undo a curse placed upon you. This is a choose-your-own-adventure style game for 1-4 players. The game boasts 1000+ minutes of gameplay and a save system that allows you to save your progress and come back to the game at a later time. One of the cool aspects of the game is that you collect ideas/concepts that will teach you things about the island allowing you to craft items. The ingredients for these crafted items are often scattered throughout the island but just look like a part of the art unless you know what you're looking for. When a player faces a challenge they will choose to take a number of cards from the top of the deck and attempt to generate a certain number of stars with them. If you succeed you get to keep one of the cards. Be wary in how many cards you take though as when the deck runs out, the party dies! This one has made nearly €1,000,000!
Folklore: The Affliction - is a relaunch of a campaign from last October. The previous campaign had actually funded but was cancelled due to a miscalculation of international shipping fees. Well Folklore: The Affliction is back and it's now being brought to by Greenbrier Games. The game is a pure co-op dark fantasy role playing adventure for 1-5 players. Players form a party of adventurers scouring the land for ancient lore and driving the evils known as Afflictions back to the hell they came from. When a character dies in Folklore: The Affliction they come back as a ghost and are able to fight against otherworldly foes (and even be resurrected by the town physician). Get killed as a Ghost and you go to Limbo where only the gypsies can help you. Any game where there's a playable character class called The Avenging Madman gets a thumbs up from me. Check it out.
World's Fair 1893 - is a light area control / set collection game about putting on the World's Fair of 1893 in Chicago. The board is made up of 5 areas which will have cards assigned to them each round. Players will take turns sending their influence to each of these areas and collecting the associated cards. Main Exhibit cards will earn you points but only if you have the most influence in the associated area. Influential Figure cards will increase the supporters you have an area. Midway Ticket cards score a small number of points and move the round towards the end where everyone will score attractions. I really like the look and feel of this one. Check it out.
Tank! - is an expansion for The Great War, the commands & colors game about World War I. As the name suggests this expansion adds pre-assembled German and British tank models to the game. On a field that previously only contained infantry units these things are intimidating as heck. While the British get twice as many tanks as the Germans this is balanced out by giving the Germans a couple of artillery units with full crew. You can add more tanks to your pledge or even grab a copy of the base game if you missed it the first time around.
Backyard Bugs - is a trick-taking game with a bug theme. Each bug has some ability will trigger when scoring happens. Ladybugs and Katydids score points, Butterflies and Moths score points but only if you have a Caterpillar, Stinkbugs eat Ladybirds, Mantis' Spiders and Centipedes eat a bunch of bugs from your collection (they could even be helpful and eat stinkbugs), Locusts can trade a card with an opponent, the Pillbug can protect against Locusts. Anyway you get the idea. There's also 5 expansions which add a whole bunch of new backyards bugs to the game. I love this because the game came from a little girl complaining to her father that there weren't enough games with ladybugs. If you're looking for a family friendly trick taking game this one looks really cool.
Wizard School - is a cooperative card game where the players are students attending the highly prestigious Wizard School. During the game they must learn spells, deal with monsters, take on graduation challenges and try to graduate. The players are all graded collectively and so they must work together to pass all of the challenges and prevent the school from being overrun.
Road to Infamy - is a crime-themed simultaneous bidding game where the players are trying to run the most infamous criminal operation in Chicago. Each hand players will make 3 bids by selecting and simultaneously revealing cards from their hands. After the 3rd bid the player with the most bids on each item takes the prize. Red bids win you gansters which give you unique abilities. Greed bids buy contraband (which is worth points). Blue bids are used to bribe the cop. When you bribe the cop your contraband is safe but everyone else loses one.
EXCEED - is a 2-player fighting game from the designer of BattleCON: War of Indines. Each character has a set of unique cards that get mixed in with a set of basic cards making a deck of 30 cards. Players will take turns taking actions to move around a 2d board and set up their hand for a strike. When you think you're ready you can initiate and attack and both players will reveal the cards in their hands to see how the exchange plays out. Each character also has a unique ability that is always in play and they can enter Exceed mode to flip their Unique Ability and get a more powerful version. Each season of Exceed will feature characters from other games. This season is based on the Red Horizons characters created for Jasco Games' Universal Fighting System TCG. I'm actually really interested in this system but as I have just invested heavily into BattleCON without an opponent to play against I don't think I can justify this If they hit the right property (say Sentinels of the Multiverse, The Wheel of Time, The Stormlight Archive, or even the World of Indines) I may not be able to resist.

And now some campaigns that just launched in the last week:
DEADCERT - is a murder mystery card game for 1 to 6 detectives. There are 72 main characters in the game, about half of which could be a suspect in a given game and it's to find the one character who has means, motive, and opportunity to pull of the murder. Each game will start with drawing a random Victim, Crime Scene, and Time of Death to form a Murder Episode. Each of those cards comes with 16 suspects that will go into a main deck that all players will draw from. Also in the deck are snoop cards that let you take various actions based on the game mode that you're playing. Speaking of which, there's an Open Hand mode for rookies, a Covert mode for veterans and even a dedicated Solo mode!
Z-War One - Damnation - claims to be the world's first episodic, comic book miniature board game (a claim I would tentatively give to Sentinel Tactics: The Flame of Freedom). The Issue #1 box set contains an extended edition of the first issue of the comic and all of the tiles and boards you need to play. Subsequent comics will continue the story while giving you new minis, mechanics, and environments to explore. Issue 2 features a companion dog. Any game with companion dogs deserves a look. My dog would totally take out zombies if they tried to eat me.
Cthulhu Wars: Onslaught Two - Cthulhu Wars is a strategic "dudes on a map" game where each player controls the minions of a Great Old One attempting to take over the world. This game has obscenely large (180mm for the largest!) minis and that has likely been a contributing factor to it's success. Having said that I've read quite a few reports that make it out to be a decent game. This campaign gives you the opportunity to grab the base game, the 4 original expansions, and 7 new expansions. If you get everything you get 243 minis and will weight something like 30kgs (~66lbs)! What really gets me is that over 200 backers have already pledged to get exactly this. If any of you are here in Perth, Western Australia feel free to invite me over a game when you get it
ZoMbushed! - You and up to 3 others are survivors of a zombie outbreak. You've just received word that the last helicopter is soon taking off from the roof of a skyscraper. Just floors and floors of zombies to wade through to get there before the the last ticket out of the city leaves forever. Each player takes a unique character that comes with their own special abilities. You then go through zones, trying to meet objectives, avoid traps and fight zombies to move to the next zone. After five zones the players win. Get to the choppa!
Chimera Sanctuary - is an interesting sounding trick-taking game. Each of the cards in the game belong to all 4 suits but have different values in each suit. After a trick is led (by playing a card and declaring the suit) each other player can try to play a stronger card and take the lead or play a weaker card which allows you activate the virtue on that card. There's a couple of odd cards in the mix as well that you have to contend with but that's the basics. It doesn't just sound cool, the artwork on the cards looks amazing as well. Check this one out.
Alkemia: Destiny's Recipe - The Crest of Creation is an artifact that it's said will reveal it's recipe to a worthy alchemist. Each of the three to six players are alchemists who have taken up the challenge of creating The Crest of Creation. They will move around the Foraging Field gathering reagents which can be used as currency to purchase items or as ingredients used to synthesize items. When you have enough reagents you can purchase Item recipes from the Bazaar. As you synthesize items, new pieces of the Crest Recipe will be revealed to you, and it's different for each player. Sound easy? Well, along the way you also have to reveal and unlock two Artefacts of Objection. Games about alchemy are so hot right now, and I'll for it.
Fathoms - is a one-vs-many advanture game set at the bottom of the sea. A group of players will control a set of heroes moving around an undersea installation while The Fathom Master controls all of the minions of the deep intent on murder-killing all those dry-landers. The Fathom Master also gets the ability to trigger Hull Breaches which will let the water in and the heroes will need to manage closing doors and controlling the flow of the water. Also, the denizens of the deep live in water so they get stronger the deeper the water gets. Elevation can give you a combat bonus but it also helps to keep you out of the water. One of the hero minis is wielding a harpoon. A freaking harpoon! Go take a look.
Dan Ariely's Irrational Card Game! - If you haven't heard of Dan Ariely I recommend that you look up his works. I have read Predictably Irrational and I found it to be a fascinating view into human behavior and how we all have these little short-cuts in our minds that make us behave in odd (but predictable) ways and how people take advantage of this. Actually, where is my copy? I want to read it again. Anywho, this campaign is for a card game based on a similar theme. The game is made up of 75 question cards each of which discuss a social experiment and offer a multiple choice selection of outcomes. If you successfully guess the outcome you get to keep the card. Keep 5 cards from different categories or 10 cards from any categories and you win. There's also some power cards that let you miss with other players.
Inhabit the Earth - is a race played across six continents to introduce, multiple, evolve and adapt different creatures. Once introduced to a continent each class of creature is represented by a counter and players can migrate them across and even between continents. Creatures can breed to generate more cards and migrating helps with breeding (and adds new tokens of course). At the end of the game points are awarded for various abilities, the locations of creature counters and other tokens. This is the latest game from Richard Breese who designed the popular Key series of games.
The Society of Eccentric Inventors - A group of inventors have entered into a friendly competition to determine the greatest among their number. At the start of the game players will each choose a unique Specialty Laboratory to which they will be adding supplemental laboratories during the game. Players will be recruiting assistants to work in their own laboratories and spies to work in opponents. Each lab allows you to research (draw) inventions and develop (add) resources required to create them. Each invention will grant you a special ability and will also generate esteem (the resource required to win).
Cardthrower Castle - is a dexterity card game where players are literally throwing things at each others castle in an attempt to win. In this case the castle is a deck of cards and the projectiles are cards (featuring Iron Boulders, Dead Mammoths and so on). The game also features skirmish units (which fight with a rock-paper-scissors mechanic) and tactics cards that let you alter up the game. I love that if your projectile gets wedged in your opponents deck when you throw it it counts as a critical hit.
Horsemen of the Apocalypse - The four horsemen of the apocalypse ride forth intending on killing everyone. That;s OK as long as you're last in this take-that card game. Players will take turns drawing cards and adding them to their hands. If you draw a horseman then it gets played immediately and you have to throw whatever you've got at it to ensure it kills you last. After the 4th horseman is mounted no-one can draw any more cards and the last player standing wins. They can feel smug for a few moments before being killed by the horsemen. It IS the end of days after all.
Assault: 19XX Expansion Set - not be confused the 18xx series of game, Assault: 19XX is a team based pulp action game where two factions vie for control of the 1930s. The expansion adds more cards, new vehicles, new rules options and a brand new story to play through. This is all based on a webcomic/graphic novel that I'm keen to check out because the world being painted on the campaign page is intriguing.
Z. Year One - is a combat card game (a la Magic: The Gathering) with a zombie theme. Each game is made up of two asymmetric factions (like Android Netrunner) called Survivors and Fallen. Survivors can use items, weapons and armor. They can search locations for more cool stuff and complete Event objectives for rewards. The Fallen are just all round tougher. They can corrupt Survivors and turn them into Fallen. They can also use Rampages which give them "killstreaks". There are 6 starter decks (3 for each faction) and the game is available as both a physical card game and a digital version.
Super Dungeon Explore: Legends - Super Dungeon Explore is a chibi-miniatures combat board game inspired by hack'n'slash video games (like Gauntlet). Throughout the dungeon are spawning points which will spew out a stream of deadly creatures for your heroes to vanquish. Each spawning point you destroy will summon a mini-boss and when the last spawn point falls the dungeon boss appears! Legends is a new expansion box that introduces rules needed to link narrative games together into an overarching story. There's also 3 new expansions, a 2nd edition of the base game, and access to an upcoming digital version to pick up as a part of the campaign!
The Elevator Card Game - is a take-that card game where the players are all running elevators and trying to get customers to their desired floors in an attempt to earn tips.
El Presidente - after the unfortunate (if not entirely unexpected) demise of El Presidente of the island of Savatori, a political power vacuum has formed. There are 6 candidates for the job and they must do whatever it takes to win the hearts and minds of the people of Savatori. Over 7 weeks the candidates will be moving around the island, boosting their own image and destroying that of their opponents. This game has a mechanic for stretching your limo! You can purchase parts of the island, recruit and send out agents and deal with occasional (LOL) crises. After the 7 weeks when the people vote, will you become El Presidente?
Beerpocalypse - is a re-launch of a game that is so dedicated to beer they put it in the title and the awesomely ridiculous theme. In a post-apocalyptic future, beer has become the only safe liquid to drink and people gather in local drinking establishments to fight mutant S.C.U.M. against each other (like dog-fighting but with mutants). Each S.C.U.M. you own pairs with a particular type of beer. Oh did I mention that you start by pouring yourself 4 beers? When your S.C.U.M. fight you need to sip from your matching beer to generate attack points. Er...sure. If you like beer-tasting and post-apocalyptic wastelands (which I do) then check this out.
Pandemonium - huzzah! A minis packed survival horror with no zombies! This is a campaign driven co-op survival game that may have you trying to escape from demons in one scenario and trying to defend a survivor from demons in another. The hero miniatures in this game are really well done. They've been modelled from about mid-thigh up which allows them to be much larger scale than most games (the painted ones look really good). If one of your heroes dies you can make a Pact with the Evil One to play on. These pacts are generally bad for the group so you want to avoid these if you can. If the ridiculous number of horror film quotes on the campaign page isn't enough to convince you that this team loves Horror then the disturbing nature of the minis should do the trick. I have to appreciate a campaign on Kickstarter that comes with a 0% Zombie guarantee. That badge should be used more liberally. The pledge is coming from inside the house!! :o
Creepiest Pet Shop - is a speed matching card game. Players will be competing to try and match up monstrous customers to equally monstrous pets. You should check this out just of the picture of Cthulhu going all gaga over it's new Kitty.
Raid & Trade: War on the Streets - Raid & Trade is a post-apocalyptic game of resource management and negotiation. After an apocalyptic third world war only a few Golden Cities remain. To enter you must be very skillful, serve the city or become a nobleman. Each turn players spend action points moving through the wasteland, raiding buildings, attacking other players and trying to be first to be worthy of entry to The Golden City. War on the Streets is an expansion to the base game that adds 4 new players, new suburbs, and a gang that you must fight through to make it to the Golden City.
Space Movers the Story Continues - is a collection of mini expansions for the co-operative space adventure game Space Movers 2201. Challenge Expansion 1 makes the UO Commander much more aggressive, sending out scouts to bring you in as they think you might know about an object stolen from them. In Bounty Hunter expansion, the UO commander grows impatient and sends out one of the most feared bounty hunters in the system. Objective Expansion 1 adds more difficult Random Objectives to the game.
Burger Up - Ah the fine art of burger making, finally in card game form. The game is made up of rotatable ingredients cards which each show 2 different ingredients. Starting with a bottom bun card you need to select and play ingredients to your burger. Each ingredient you play can go in one of two ways and the way you play it will determine what the next ingredient needs to be. When you're ready you claim a top bun from the center which represents a customers order. When you nab a top bun you need to drop a coin on the remaining top buns (to be collected by whoever grabs them).

And that's all I have for you this week. What are you backing? What are you playing? Are there any games that you just can't wait to get? Drop us a comment below and let us know! And don't forget to visit kickthetable.com to stay up to date on Kickstarter Campaigns in the Tabletop Games category. Now if you'll excuse me this monster has taken around 7 hours to put together and now it's ha;f passed one in the morning. I'm going to sleep Catch y'all next week!
