Among the best things in life is playing printed games in person with family and close friends. When those are not convenient we like iOS Board Games.
News, reviews, previews, and opinions about board gaming on iPhones, iPads, iPods and even Android devices. (iPhone board games, iPad board games, iPod board games, Android board games)
In life you have to do a lot of things you don't f*cking want to do. Many times, that's what the f*ck life is... one vile f*cking task after another.
XenoShyft Expands (again) with NorTec Elite Pack XenoShyft is one of the best apps to be released in 2015 and a definite contender for board game of the year. (In my mind, at least. Not sure what Supreme Commander is thinking.) It wasn't always so. At launch the UI was most favorably described as "poor" and playing on a phone was nigh impossible. That said, CMON Limited has been relentless in updating the app since its summer release and the UI is now functional, but the expansion packs make the original game so much better.
XenoShyft was updated again this morning and the NorTec Elite expansion is now available via a $2 IAP. What does it do? Well, it incorporates a lot of the Kickstarter exclusives into one juicy package. Let me blurb it for you:
Cool Mini or Not wrote:
The Hive has proven to be more powerful than we originally expected, but as we’ve fought, brave and fearsome heroes have emerged from the ranks of NorTec’s common soldiers, bringing with them a ferocity to match any Hive monstrosity. Furthermore, our scientists have developed cutting-edge weapons and technologies to bolster NorTec forces.
NEW FEATURES: The NorTec Elite expansion brings 8 new hero units and 24 new experimental items, to help you fight off the Hive! Hero Mechanic – Troops that survive a round will be able to be upgraded to heroes! Only one hero per troop type allowed! Experimental Items – All item stacks will now contain an experimental version of its item, randomly included.
Sound awesome? Of course it does.
There have also been the normal tweaks and bug fixes as well, making XenoShyft even better than it already is.
Magic Duels Getting Battle for Zendikar Tomorrow Magic Duels was released earlier this year as Wizards of the Coast's new approach to the app. Gone would be the annual releases and the app had a more involved story mode for a campaign. Unfortunately, it seems that some things never change, and it sounds like the iOS version of Magic: The Gathering has been having problems for a few months now. Scan the iTunes reviews and you'll see a lot of one- and two-star reviews.
The Battle of Zendikar expansion has been available on the Steam version of Magic for awhile now, so we know a little of what to expect. There are 150 new cards, new story content, and new skill quests.
Want to pick it up and give it a go? It's free to download for iOS Universal.
Splendor Updates and Gets New Challenge Pack: Macau Splendor arrived via Days of Wonder earlier this year and, other than a lack of online multiplayer, was a huge success. One of the forces driving that success was the addition of single player challenges. These were solitaire games in which several rules were altered and you were trying to achieve a certain goal rather than outscore anyone. They were pretty fantastic.
The app was just updated to include a new challenges pack, Macau. This pack is free when you upgrade your app, so there's no reason not to do so. This pack offers a new mode in which you have to capture cards on the board instead of searching for victory points.
If you want to give Splendor a try and haven't picked it up yet, it's for iOS Universal, Android, and Kindle devices. It will cost you $7 on each.
