Reiner Knizia's The Confrontation Submitted Earlier this summer Offworld Games released their port of Reiner Knizia's The Confrontation on PC/Mac. Gameplay was intact, but missing was the cardboard version's Lord of the Rings theme. At the time, we wondered if the game would hold up without it and it turns out it can. The Confrontation is a good enough game that it feels right even without a certain ring and a certain hobbit. That's good news to us who have been looking forward to The Confrontation on our iPads. What's even better news, however, is that Offworld submitted The Confrontation today and expect it to hit the App Store before the annual holiday shutdown.
Instead of the Fellowship vs. Sauron, here we have a generic fantasy Light vs. Shadow. While generic, the devs did a great job of creating creatures and units that fit the abilities that were originally tied to LotR characters. For example, gone is Moria replaced with a Labyrinth, and the character that benefits from the space is no longer a Balrog, but a Minotaur.
Reiner Knizia's The Confrontation will be available for iPad-only. It will have both solo play vs. AI as well as real-time online multiplayer.
