A place to talk about how great Race/Roll For The Galaxy are. Maybe I'll discuss other games too.

I had been thinking about what to do for this one since Ascension is one of my favorite games. I own all 4 full blocks and couldn't make up my mind about what to feature. There is so much great art and those fantastic gems, I was going to have to fight a battle to keep things at a reasonable scope. It was incredibly fortunate when Dreamscape arrived at my FLGS on the very day that I had planned for Ascension. Now I didn't have to pour through all the sets, instead I could just feature this new one.

One of the prominent features in Dreamscape is the new currency, Insight, which has delightful little ovoids to match the honor gems. I was fascinated with the idea of catching the colorful shadows of these transparent bits on my white canvas. It couldn't be quite that simple, however, because I also wanted to show off the fantastic artwork. Unfortunately this meant fighting glare on the cards because I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to lighting.

I set aside the idea of shadows and got to work on a simple arrangement featuring figureheads from the four factions along with a fifth factionless hero to round out the display. The gems went in the middle and then continued to fill in the space around the card arrangement. I added in some more cards when I couldn't quite fill all the white space with gems. Then I added some more cards for good measure because that's just what I do. Luckily things didn't get out of hand and I felt that the gems were still the primary feature of the setup.

When it came time to take pictures I settled on putting the lighting behind me in order to avoid glare on the cards. This hid the shadows on the gems but in the process of shooting I circled around to the other side of the table for a single picture. Why only one I'm not exactly sure, probably because there was glare on the cards and I didn't think it would turn out. Fortunately it was a decent shot and the only one that showed off the colorful shadows that I wanted. The glare still bugs me a little bit but it was the closest thing to what I envisioned so I went with it.

Here's a picture of the full setup from the other side.
