Keeping you up to date with Kickstarter Campaigns in the Tabletop Games category
Hey there Kickers! I'm back home in Perth where it's hot and muggy, making me want to go back to Bangkok to cool down :o. While I was in Thailand last week I got to introduce some colleagues to No Thanks!, Tsuro and even got a 6 player game of Space Cadets: Dice Duel going. That was a ton of fun and my pilot referred to it as a "geek workout" when we finished and were all drenched in sweat.

Right now there's 152 live Kickstarter Campaigns in the Tabletop Games category (up 27 on last week). Of those, 63 (~41%) have already fully funded. 45 (~30%) have BGG pages (that I can find). I'm going to make a prediction that we will see a week with at least 300 live campaigns this year.

After a week of working in high gear and then a full day of travel I'm not going to be able to cover everything. Here are some campaigns that are catching my eye this week:
Nemo's War: Second Edition - Be Nemo, infamous Captain of the submarine, the Nautilus. Get hunted by the nations of the word while you sail the seas having adventures. This is a game designed for solo play. I've never played the original version but this new version looks amazing. Check it out.
Nova Aetas - a tactical RPG set in a an alternative Renaissance. This is the 3rd time the game has appeared on Kickstarter and I'm super happy to see it not just fund, but do really well. The game looks gorgeous and has 3d buildings! It's fully co-op with your band of four adventurers going up against AI controlled opponents and levelling up along a branching career path.
XenoShyft: Dreadmire - is a co-op deckbuilder where each player controls a different part of a base on an alien world. It's up to you to protect this base while swarms of aliens come in and try to take it out. This is a stand alone expansion to XenoShyft: Onslaught that adds new aliens, new soldiers and new equipment. It also adds weather effects which will alter the abilities of a bunch of the cards during each turn creating an additional challenge as you need to cater for changing weather effects. I don't know that I need another deckbuilder but I want this one anyway.
Karmaka - is a tactical card game about reincarnation. Players will start as dung beetles and through their deeds they must work their way up the karmic ladder to transcendence. During each hand you must score points, stash cards for your next life and play cards for their abilities. Be wary though as when you play a card, a rival can stash them for their next life. What goes around, comes around. The art is amazing and the gameplay sounds intriguing. Check it out.
Control - is a combat card game with a time travel theme. There has been a rupture in space-time and the first player to refuel their time machine will escape it and seal it behind them (with everyone still inside). On your turn you can draw a card, install a card into your play area to charge your fuel cells, burn (discard) a bronze card to activate it's ability or defuse an opponents fuel cell with one of your own. The silver (i.e. not bronze) cards all have an ability that is activated when they are installed.
The T.C. Petty Experience - is a campaign featuring two games from Ion Award winning game designer T.C. Petty III. Don't Get Eated is a social semi-co-op card game where the players are animals who have left the farm searching for adventure. Each round they will face a challenge and must simultaneously select a card from their hand to use to try and beat the challenge. Players who played the same number will form a squad and become stronger together but at the end of the day, only one of you won't get eated. Any game with a Wheel of Doom is worth taking a look at. Club Zen is a worker placement game that sees you planning out a 7 day working vacation in the most Zen way possible. Will you go rock climbing or have a massage? Collect stones for your zen garden or meet new friends? And how will you handle the stresses of modern life? Phone calls and emails won't stop just because you're at the beach. Unlike other worker placement games, in Club Zen there is often a benefit for players who want to visit the same location as the shared time together can help you relax and achieve Zen. This is a fantastic theme and a neat sounding game. In fact, both games sound good. Check this one out.
No Fish! - is a deduction hand management card game. Each player starts the game with a hand of 7 fish cards and the first to get rid of them all wins. The catch is that you hold your hand so that only the other players can see it (like Hanabi or Bomb Squad). The normal fish come in 4 different suits, each containing 10 fish numbered 1 to 10. On your turn you can guess a number and if you have a matching fish then another player will release it for you. There are also special fish that you can guess that each grant a special ability when released. The designer sent me a preview copy of this game and I played it with my kids. They got a kick out of guessing right while I tried desperately to card count my way to victory. It's quick and fun. Check it out.
Beardsmith - is a relaunch campaign for a tile laying game about dwarven beard stylists (yeah!). Starting from a face tile, players will extend the braids of the customers beard, trying to have the fewest open ends on their own colors. Beware your opponents might be ready to step in with the shears or even stick gum into the beard! It's an outrageous and silly theme and I'm so happy to live in a world where this game will exist.
Dark Ring: Hong Kong -
- is also a relaunch campaign. This time for a card game that features 3 factions going into Hong Kong to look for mysterious Orbs that fell from the sky. Each round players will submit cards to a host who will look at them and distribute them face down in front of the other players. Then players will have 2 rounds of actions which will move and manipulate the face down cards before deciding whether or not to pick them up (some of them are bad).

And that's all I have for you this week. I'm certain that I've missed some gold though so drop me a comment and tell me about it. Keep refreshing on to stay up to date on Kickstarter Games in the Tabletop Games category. And be back here next week for another blazing bunch of campaigns here on Kick the Table.
