This avatar stinks!
We didn't play Louis XIV last week. When I got to the store I just wasn't in the mood to explain it even though there were just four of us. I am sure I will revisit this at some point in the near future.
This week's game takes back to the lands of a Spanish-speaking people to the island country of Cuba. I haven't played this since a couple of weeks after returning home with it from the Gathering back in 2008. Mike has been wanting to play it since then and I know he will be there this Saturday, so it is the choice.
I made sure to tell him to read the rules, because there are a lot of little rules which can be forgotten, and I know I will do something wrong if I don't have a fact-checker.
The game is all about setting up a production engine, but the trick is placing the types of good you can produce on the player boards in such a way that it is most efficient for your plans. There is also a voting phase where the players can choose to vote for or against some upcoming rules for the next turn
I liked the game enough to pick it up from John P. at the GoF flea market after playing it, but the amount of space the game board and player boards take up can be a detriment to playing it. I've never played with the El Presidente expansion and I can't see myself buying it because the game just doesn't get played.
