Champions of Midgard apparently coming to PC/Mac
Thanks to the eagle eyes of one Scott Nash, it's come to our attention that Grey Fox Games is full of sneaky little devils. Why, you ask? Because their viking-themed worker placement game, Champions of Midgard is currently sitting on Steam waiting for an Early Access release and nobody told us.
Due to the lack of info from Grey Fox, we have a...severe lack of info. Probably not my best sentence ever, but you get the idea.
The game is being developed by MidGameLab and will, apparently, be released for PC and Mac. Due to the aforementioned lack of info, we don't know if there are any plans to bring it to mobile.MidGameLab wrote:The old Jarl has died and his once prosperous port has fallen into a state of catastrophe. Fearsome creatures are coming in droves, driving chaos and destruction before them. Trolls attack the town. Draugr terrorize the nearby villages. Monsters strike at travelers and merchants alike. The people are suffering and you could be their champion.
Champions of Midgard blends worker-placement and dice-driven combat to create an exciting and strategic experience. Recruit warriors, gain powerful runes, and peer into the future – then send your faithful fighters on journeys to defeat fierce and mythical beasts. Gain the most glory to become the new Jarl and be recognized as a Champion of Midgard!
Champions of Midgard is a Viking era worker placement game with dice-driven combat. Taking on the roles of competing Viking leaders, players hunt trolls, battle draugr, and slay mythical Norse beasts in a quest for glory!
- This is the official digital adoptation of the famous board game called "Champions of Midgard" from Grey Fox Games
- Possibility to play with AI
- Local Multiplayer
- Animated background
- Rating system included
I don't see online multiplayer listed, so maybe CoM is going to be a non-online affair which is odd for a board game. Then again, maybe it's planned but they haven't worked out the details yet. I'd tell you if it weren't for that darned lack of info everyone keeps talking about.
We'll get on the horn to Russia and see if we can track down any info and, as always, we'll let you know ASAP.

Gaia Project on the DIGIDICED table
This one is definitely way, way out there in terms of when we'll see it go live, but it appears that Digidiced UG, developer of the digital version of Terra Mystica, has acquired the rights to bring its sci-fi cousin to our eyeballs as well.
According to this thread (which was brought to our attention by reader Tysen Streib), DIGIDICED has the digital rights to Gaia Project but has a ton of other stuff on their plate before they can get around to actually coding it. Little things like the digital version of The Castles of Burgundy and other, secret projects we don't know about yet.
So, not a lot of info, but it's good to know that it's on the docket and will be handled by the folks who did such a good job with its fantasy forebear.
Gem Rush is (has been) available for PC/Mac/Linux and iOS/Android
I love Victory Point Games mainly because they make awesome solo games and I'm completely friendless and alone. One of the latest games released in their "premier" line is Gem Rush (Second Edition) which has you collecting gems and spending them to dig and expand your mine, gathering VPs in the process. It's a fun game that can be played cooperatively or competitively.
When it was on Kickstarter they mentioned a digital version in the works, but it completely slipped my mind until I stumbled upon it a couple weeks ago. There's a digital version for PC/Mac/Linux as well as iOS and Android that's been around since last year and it's really great. In fact, it's one of the more polished and pretty board game ports you'll find on any platform.Quicksilver Software, Inc. wrote:This mountain is rich in mystic gems. Combine gems to open up new rooms, providing new ways to dig up gems. Race against other players or race together against the clock to dig the greatest mine in this fast-paced, easy-to-learn strategy game.
-Leverage more than 60 room abilities
-20 unique player skills adorned with dwarven poetry
-Competitive, cooperative, and solitaire game modes (1-7 players)
-Online and hotseat multiplayer options
-True cross-platform play: iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, and Linux versions can all play together
-Play a quick game and watch the action unfold, or play an asynchronous game where you only need to take one turn per day
-3 levels of AI to play with or against
-Faithful adaptation of the Gem Rush board game, programmed by the designer
Gem Rush really feels like it was crafted with care and it's a shame that we missed the release and that there aren't more people online playing it right now. Let's remedy that, shall we?
- Gem Rush for iOS Universal, $7
- Gem Rush for Android, $7
- Gem Rush for PC/Mac/Linux via Steam, $9 (on sale)
