Gloomhaven, in case you didn't know, is popular. Lots of people want more of it, and at the SHUX convention that took place Oct. 4-6, 2019 in Vancouver, Canada, designer Isaac Childres announced that more is coming, specifically a standalone game bearing the placeholder title of Gloomhaven: [Subtitle].

Gloomhaven: [Subtitle] is a standalone game that contains a 24-scenario campaign and that takes place before the events of Gloomhaven. The game includes four new characters (depicted below) that can also be used in the original Gloomhaven game. Childres gave a Q3 2020 release date for this item, with an anticipated MSRP of $40-50.

The idea, wrote Childres, is to have "the barrier to entry made as low as possible", and the reason behind this goal might be made clear in how he responded to suggestions for what this game's subtitle should be: "I'll run it by Target, see what they think."

Yes, apparently the U.S. retail chain Target will be the seller of this new item, which is amazing to think about when you consider what Target had on its game shelves just a few years ago. It relaunched its game section in 2017 with a number of exclusive titles and a decent selection of hobby game titles, and now it's going to be the destination for gamers who want what will likely be one of the most anticipated releases of 2020.
