Kurz and Allison were a major publisher of chromolithographs in the late 19th century. This Chicago company gained its reputation for depicting battles of the American Civil War with a set of these 36 battle scenes designed by Salzburg-born Louis Kurz (1835-1921), a veteran of the war. The prints were considered highly inaccurate but quite popular. The company also created several large prints of major battles of Spanish-American War, the Philippine-American War, and the Russo-Japanese War.
Their rendering of the Battle of Chancellorsville was used as cover artwork for the game Chancellorsville.
