James E. Lyle (or Doodle) is a native of western North Carolina, having been born in Asheville in 1963 and raised in the mountains near Waynesville. In the sixth grade he
decided that being an artist was what mainly interested him. A graduate of Southwestern Community College, he has been a professional cartoonist and illustrator for the past thirty years, working primarily as a freelance but occasionally dabbling in full-time employment.
He has been published by such companies as Acclaim Comics, Caliber Comics, Now Comics, and Zenescope Entertainment. He has also contributed to the Weekly Reader line of magazines for school age children and has created comic book style illustrations for Jones Soda Co. featuring professional theater productions and various professional football teams.
Doodle has also designed tee shirts for various major apparel companies, CD covers for recording artists like Todd Rundgren, Anne Lough, and Sloug Feg.
Doodle still lives near Waynesville with his wife, Karin (who grew up as a cartoonist’s daughter).
