Michiel Van Coxie, sometimes Coxcie, Coxien, the Coxien, The Coxcie, Coxius, Van Coxcie, (1499 in Mechelen or Liège - March 10 1592 in Antwerp) was a painter from the Duchy of Brabantm, a state of the Holy Roman Empire. He is considered a Northern Renaissance painter. In addition to portraits and religious scenes, he also design for stained glass and tapestries. His work was strongly influenced by the Italian High Renaissance artists, especially Raphael. He died at Mechelen on March 5, 1592, at the age of 92, after falling from a flight of stairs.
