The Sauerländer Verlag was founded in 1807 by Heinrich Remigius Sauerländer (1776-1847) in Aarau (Switzerland). Sauerländer took over the printing office 1803, conducted jointly with the Basel Samuel Flick, the bookstore and the publishing company as sole owner. Together with its main author Heinrich Zschokke of Aarau popular Sauerländer progressive liberal ideas throughout German-speaking countries. Since the mid-20th Century is mainly due to the publishing of his book program for children and youth, but also as a teaching tool known publisher.
The Sauerländer Verlag published together with HABA the games round about the cow Lieselotte (Millie), which "Lieselotte lauert" is a famous children book.
