Battle Staff Games is a Swedish war game company. The games are "print´n´play" or DTP (desk top published) for the time being. They are however not neccecerily of the smaller och simpler variety. The goal is to provide players with games that increase the understanding of the various situations complexity, especially in command and control issues, but still are playable and enoyable as games and not as heavy simulations.
While most DTP-games have about 100-200 counters and a rather small map these games are significantly larger.
The first projects include:
Swedish steel" is a low level tactical game series depicting combat between the invading Warpac units and the counterattacking Swedish armoured units in a hypothetical third world war scenarion. The game uses platoons for counters, 500 meter hexes and on hour game turns, divided into up to as many as four activations per formation, to picture battalion and brigade level combat. The game system is based on the tactical war game used by the Swedish Land warfare Center. Following modules will center on PB26 as it engages invading warpac units on the eastern coast of southern Sweden, PB8 when it attacks to destroy the invasion in Scania, PB9 as it battles the Warpac around NORRKÖPING in eastern Sweden, PB18 fighting on the island Gotland in the Baltic Sea, and MekB10 as it defends Stockholm.
"Battle sight" is a grand tactical game system depicting battles inSweden when the warpac invades as a part of an escalating World War III. Units are companies, hexes are 2000 meters and the game turns represents 4h. The first module will center on the XIII division that was the operational reserve in the Southern military area and was alo known as the armoured division. It was intended for the counterattacks against the enemy bridgehead once the red "schwerpunkt" had been identified. The game will also feature the I. and XI. Swedish divisions and territorial defence units. The Warpac are respresented by the elite VDV (Airborne units) and elite Baltic marines as well as more "vanilla" motorised rifle and tank units and even Polish marine units.
"War of Brethren". A union about 90 years old is torn apart by secession. The central government cannot accept the secession and mobilizes to restore the union. Blue uniforms form up against the rebels that gather under red banners to protect their new found freedom. Sounds familiar? Very likely it is not. This is not a game about the American civil war but rather a game about the war that was quite close but never happened when Norway seceded from the union with Sweden in 1905. Preparation for an attack to restore the union was well underway but in the end a diplomatic solution was found largely since the King Oscar II did not think a war was justified. The game will allow the players to find out how the war could have developed and if the union could have been preserved by the use of military force.
