From 1978 until 1983 TJ & J Smith published the Pepys Series of card games that it purchased from Castell Brothers and sold to Gibson Games.
TJ & J Smith was founded in 1839 as a London partnership to manufacture a range of fine diaries, almanacs, quill pens and special metallic paper. One of the company's original brands was Leathersmith of London.
The company moved to Wimbledon. In 1947 it acquired the Biggleswade bookbinders Adams and Harrison Ltd who took on the diary manufacturing. The Biggleswade factory was acquired by Harlech TV in 1977 and closed in 1987.
In June 1949 the company adopted the brand Dataday. In March 1987 the company was renamed Dataday Limited. It was acquired by the bookbinders H. Neale & Co. Limited in the same year. The new company became Neale Dataday Limited.
