Lardy International, located in the French village of Dortan, was the well known maker of chess pieces that covered the range from small, inexpensive sets up to premium tournament sets. Although they went out of business ca. 1988, their influence is shown by the fact that chess sets are still manufactured and sold as "Lardy" or "Lardy style". A distinctive feature of the Lardy style is the design of the knights, which are often known as "French knights".
