From the section labeled 'Description' in the rulebook:
4-Player Conquest (trademark) is played on a gameboard printed with a land and water map. Each of the four large islands at the corners has a cluster of five spaces enclosed in a fortress-like structure, which are the capitols. Each player has twenty land pieces and six vessels which can be moved about on the map. Numerous spaces on the map are connected by roads or sea lanes designating where the pieces and vessels may move. The pieces may move from one island to another across connecting bridges. Vessels may sail under the bridges.
The island in the center has a road which ends by radiating to five spaces each encompassing a hexagon. The five spaces are the "Quests". Access to the center island and the Quests is the same from any of the four sides.
