This was the very first edition of Ace of Aces to be released.
This edition comprises an 8.5" tall x 6" wide cover sheet, a set of two 6" wide x 4.5" tall game books and a set of four 8.5" tall x 6" wide sheets with gameplay charts and errata. This edition of the game had no box: instead, the components were shrinkwrapped to a cardboard backing.
Unique to this edition are the following:
1. In the game books, on the reverse of the title page, no text appears below the Gameshop address (all later Ace of Aces editions show either "PAT. PEND." or "PATENTED").
2. The gunfire graphics are subtle to the point of being unclear. Later editions had more obvious and cartoonish gunfire.
3. An error on page 185 in each book shows the image that should appear on the opponent's page.
4. The charts are printed in black on single unfolded sheets of paper, stapled together. Unusually, the charts are printed with each reverse sheet upside-down.
