After decades of being stored in the family cupboard, finally played a game (against J - always a good sport for playing simple games through).

The skill seems to be in simply moving enemies into your lines of fire and away from your opponent's.

At first annoyed by the lack of points gained or any real drawback after a defender is destroyed, I later realised that this one 'strategic' element would be lacking otherwise. With a real benefit to destroying defenders, putting an enemy into a defender's line of fire could either be good or bad depending on the subsequent spins. So the best move would generally be to either capture anything or - if no capture is possible - move every piece OUT of every line of sight, simply slowing the game down and making the game almost entirely luck-driven. As is, there's some tactical movement possible and the game is only 'mainly' luck-based.

I won 11 to 23ish. Want to play again but then maybe get rid of.

I could imagine a far better game here if there were movement patterns that allowed for more complex planning. Maybe if the defenders moved X spaces (maybe 4) orthogonally, but each move could be in any direction. Then you could position enemies to attack your opponent but too far away to be attacked. And you could move into a "knight's move" away from an enemy, keeping it unable to kill you. I'll maybe make up a variant.
