Hello everybody! Welcome to the BoardGameGeek community (which also includes RPGGeek and VideoGameGeek).

Our community values diversity, improving representation, and making board gaming more inclusive. Everyone is welcome to stay and participate in our community as long as you follow our rules. If you cannot or will not follow our rules, you will be asked to leave. But they are pretty easy rules to follow, and are designed to make sure that everyone feels welcome and comfortable contributing to the community.

Threads that touch on sensitive topics are closely monitored to keep the discussion from being derailed by off-topic, dismissive, or otherwise inappropriate comments. Our moderators use their discretion to remove comments that they judge to be disruptive to those ongoing discussions. One of our goals in moderating discussions is to create space for people to share their concerns and discuss those concerns without being interrupted. We believe that quickly removing disruptive comments is the only option that allows discussions to continue uninterrupted.

These rules are in addition to those covered under the BoardGameGeek Terms of Service. These BoardGameGeek Community Rules apply to all of your User Submissions, as defined in the Terms of Service, including without limitation: forum threads, replies, reviews, session reports, geeklists, images, files, links, ratings, tags, comments, geekmail, and any other user submitted content.

If it is something you share through our site that other people can see, then it is subject to our rules.

• Do not violate the BoardGameGeek Terms of Service
• Do not post anything racist, sexist, misogynistic, objectifying, homophobic, transphobic, or any other form of bigotry
• Do not harass anyone for any reason
• Do not post comments dismissive of other people's concerns over sensitive issues
• Do not post anything disruptive to ongoing discussions such as comments that are trolling, antagonizing, derailing, etc.
• Do not complain or comment about moderation - comments about moderation derail discussions and are only permitted in the designated complaints forum
• Do not manipulate site statistics (Likes, thumbs, ratings, polls, plays, etc) through the personal use or coordination of multiple accounts
• Do not use, coordinate, or encourage multiple accounts to brigade content in a disruptive way on BGG or on any other site
• Do not request or provide content for the purpose of replicating a game or other work protected by copyright without the permission of the rights holder.
• Do not post anything that causes a disruption in any other way not already listed
• Forum moderators have the final say in determining what is appropriate.

• Please use the RSP guild for comments regarding religion, sex, or politics that are unrelated to board games or the board game community.
• Please do not quote inappropriate posts in your replies - otherwise your replies will also be removed when the inappropriate comment is moderated.

You can help moderate the forums yourself by clicking the thumbs up button on posts, or reporting them as rules violations by clicking the ... button in the bottom right corner of a post. Here are some moderating guidelines to get you started:

• Give thumbs up to posts you like. We encourage the liberal use of the thumbs up button.
• Show extra kindness to people with the New User badge - they're new here!
• Report a post if it violates our rules.
• Do not Report something simply because you disagree with it; abuse of the Report function can result in moderators ignoring all future Reports coming from your account.

Anything that receives enough Reports will be automatically hidden so that it takes an extra click to read it. Please do not complain about having your content hidden.

Forum moderators periodically review posts that have been Reported to see if they warrant official moderation.

There are a number of different outcomes that can result from something being moderated

• Posts that are heavily Reported by the community are automatically hidden by our forum system.
  • These comments can still be read by clicking the Show link on the hidden comment
  • Forum moderators review Reported comments to see if they warrant further action
• Comments that violate our rules will be hidden by our moderators
  • These comments cannot be unhidden, and will usually include a brief description of the reason for removal
  • The person who submitted the moderated comment will be contacted privately about the removal
  • Comments replying to the moderated comment will also be hidden. Authors of these replies will not be contacted as their comments were not moderated themselves
  • Copying and reposting moderated comments can result in a suspended account
• Threads made in the wrong forum may be moved or deleted, depending on context.
• Moderators will suspend the account privileges of an account that commits frequent or severe violations of site rules to prevent continued unwelcome disruptive comments. You will be contacted with instructions on how to request reinstatement.
  • Bypassing a suspension with another account will result in a permanent site-wide ban.

We reserve the right to immediately terminate or suspend anyone who fails to abide by our rules. The decision to suspend or terminate accounts will be made at the sole discretion of the site administrators. All account terminations (bannings) are to be considered final.

The above rules will cover most things for most people. What follows are other community rules covering specific types of content and interactions.

You may only enter a contest once. The odds of winning will be determined by the number of entries. The contest is open to all BoardGameGeek.com members who have entered valid and verifiable information upon registration, including name and email address.

Employees, agents, and family members of the advertiser(s), BoardGameGeek, or their affiliates, manufacturers, sales representatives, subsidiaries or parent companies, advertising/sales promotion agencies, and the immediate families of each are not eligible to participate in the Contest and shall be ineligible for any prize covered herein. Entrants acknowledge that the advertiser(s) and BoardGameGeek are not liable for reimbursement of any prize or consideration other than the prizes listed. Residents of jurisdictions where this type of Contest drawing is prohibited by law or subject to registration are ineligible to participate in the Contest and shall be ineligible for any prize covered herein. • Contests are a fun way to engage the community. If you are thinking of running a contest please be mindful of the following:
  • You MUST geekmail the Community Manager with the subject line "CONTEST" to receive permission before running any contest on the site to ensure it conforms to the site rules. Your contest is likely to be approved as long as the contest is not promotional or you are not otherwise personally benefiting from it.
  • Requiring users to give a thumb to a geeklist, thread, or similar content as part of participating in the contest or in return for any other compensation is not allowed.
