This PNP has the final wording that will go to the printer. The spell cards are formatted for simple printing and are not indicative of the final components and layout.

Also, the cards are in black and white to be ink friendly.

Changes from the previous version to this one are primarily about wording, grammar, typos, punctuation, and text consistency. Really, all the nitty gritty that turn it into a final product.

You will need a method of keeping score. Paper and pencil, poker chips, or pennies all work well!

You can download the final rules from BGG here: https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/120043/official-hocus-rul...

We believe this is the final update for Hocus before we go to print. Barring changes in text from final proofing, we think this is it.

This is the black and white version.

Changes since the previous version:
-The deck = no changes. Don't print those pages!
-Spells: Tweaked Mirage and Materialize for Illusion and Void Walk and Shadow Form for Darkness. Improved wording on a few confused Spells and added clarifications in a few cases.

For this PNP, you will need a scoring mechanism. Pen and paper, poker chips, pennies, all work.

Rules in final layout can be seen here:

Final proofing still needs to occur.

As always, feel free to email feedback to grant@hyperbolegames.com.

This update changes only a single Spell: Shadow Form in Darkness. We found that the previous version wasn't good enough. Otherwise, all cards and Spells have not changed.

Therefore, if you have the previous version of the game, ONLY print the Darkness Spell page.

We have made a few edit/polish passes on the rules:

The FAQ is still available;

How to Play Video (Advanced Spells/Owls):

For those new to Hocus, you will need a method of Scoring (pennies, pen and paper, poker chips). Also, the layout shown for the Spells is NOT indicative of the final product. We did it in this manner to make it simpler to PNP.

This is a near final sprint. As we approach our June 25 Kickstarter launch, and final graphic preparation, we've really taken a hard look at some final details. It also helps that we went to some local cons in the Bay Area and Seattle to get some fresh, final eyes.

If you have played a previous version, simply download the Owls and the Spells. You can ignore the other cards -- they haven't changed.

This is the black and white printer friendly version of our final card layout. However, the layout of our Spells is ONLY for the PNP. We have much nicer cards (shown in the rules!) planned. This is just for ease of assembly.

You will need a method of keeping score, like chips, pennies, or pen and paper.

Patch Notes:
-Polished Owls. We had 1 or 2 Owls that felt weak, and 1 that didn't work well with Foresight (Chaos Spell).
-Removed the discard mechanism. Now, all cards are placed on bottom of the deck. This has a new game term: Return
-Tweaked Shadow Form Spell
-Added the word "your" for all Spells involving a pocket. Previously, there was an oft missed global rule that you could never modify other people's pockets. Now, the text on all Spell cards makes this clear.

This is an important and hopefully final PNP update.

-Final card art and layout in printer friendly black and
-All Spells updated with (fingers crossed) final balance
-You will need a method to keep score. Pen and paper, a smart phone, some coins, some cubes, some chips all work.
-If you have downloaded previous versions of the cards, the only reason to download the new ones is for the great art and layout! Otherwise, we've only updated wording and balance on some of the Spells.

Note: The Spells do NOT use final layout or art. We are using this format for them to save on printing and cutting time.

The near final balanced PNP of Hocus. If you already have the game, simply print the last 4 pages and cut them in half. You'll then have the 8 Spell Books fully up to date. NONE of the other cards have changed.

1. You'll need to provide a way to keep score with the PNP.
2. Minor changes to a few of the spell books for balance.

This is the updated PNP. If you have already printed the cards, ignore pages 1-8. Simply print pages 9-12 and cut each in half. 4 black and white pages, 4 cuts, and you have our updated spells. We think these 8 spells are 95% ready.

1. You will need to provide some tokens (pennies, cubes, poker chips, pen and paper) to keep score.

Full rules are available here, with improved diagrams. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SSYVxTS6csQM7purxN0RsPEi...

We are still improving and iterating on Spells.

1. If you already have the cards, simply print pages 9-12, cut them in half. Done!
2. We now have 8 Spell books - we added Chronomancy and Enchantment. These are weird ones!

The rules are always available here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SSYVxTS6csQM7purxN0RsPEi...

This is an updated version of the Hocus PNP with:

1. A few revised and improved spells
2. The file is arranged to be easier to download, print, and assemble. It's a better PNP for PNP's sake!
3. You will now need to gather coins, poker chips, cubes, or some form of token to track score. We removed 10 cards from the PNP to save you cutting time.

Rules are the same here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SSYVxTS6csQM7purxN0RsPEi...

Send all feedback here or to grant at hyperbolegames dot com.

If you have the previous version, simply update the spell portion.

This is the full PNP for Hocus Poker - a 2-5 player card game that plays in about 30-45 minutes. Hocus Poker is an extensively tested mature prototype with well over 150 local and blind tests against it.

We are trying to finalize the balance of our Advanced Spells and would love your help in refining these.

Rules are located here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SSYVxTS6csQM7purxN0RsPEi...
