I really enjoy this game, especially the Czechoslovakia Resists scenario, but the WP Revolt Table randomness is a bit too "swingy".
Here are some optional/variant rules that try to limit the effect of very bad rolls for both sides.
Soviet player : If he gets long sequences of rolls for countries that have been suppressed, unoccupied cities may revolt again. Also, if he wipes out the Berlin garrison then NATO automatically intervenes; if East Germany revolts, he has to decide whether to leave Berlin in revolt or bring NATO into the conflict
NATO player : Has to decide between waiting a turn to deploy all his forces or go on the current turn without the support of some member countries.
It also reduces the amount of air power that can be used in any single combat and prevents the Soviets from "pinning" unrevolted WP units.
