Pirates CSG Master Spreadsheet.xlsx (1.36 MB)
Credit to:
-Original Wizkids documents provided by Woelf
-Jolly Roger spreadsheet by Holofernes
-Miniature Trading database

Pros of my spreadsheet:

-Don’t have to scroll to the right for anything important (flavor text and treasure values off to the right) (Basically a rule of Pirates CSG spreadsheets in my opinion – if you can’t easily see all gameplay-relevant data without scrolling, columns should be shrunk down for ease of use.)
-All flavor text included
-Factions color coded for maximum ease of use (I like the new design so much that I think I will be converting my custom sets to the same color scheme!)
-Took the best stuff from each resource used (Holofernes’ notes from Jolly Roger + filtering, flavor text from Wizkids spreadsheets, Miniature Trading database for cannons and some flavor text (a/b for crewfer twofers/etc are lowercase because that is how they appear on the WK documents)
-Includes unreleased and “lost” items from official Wizkids documents

Cons:
-Some columns do not display well at all with the filter view. Those are the ones I slanted so they would be more legible (it gets worse if they are horizontal).
-Filter view does not seem to work with Google Sheets version for online viewing, unless you create a temporary filter view yourself. Even tried allowing editing mode and locking the sheets, but that didn’t work either. (https://productforums.google.com/d/msg/docs/68RwOGYUCqA/PFFY...)
To view filters in online version: Data>Filter Views>Create new temporary filter view
The .xlsx file of the spreadsheet has the filters.
-Likely some minor mistakes due to copy/paste errors or excessive dragging of cell data. (please point out so I can fix them)

Pirates of the Spanish Main:: Pirates of the Cursed Seas: Rise of the Moon Sorcerer By: El_Cazador
Pirates of the Cursed Seas--Rise of the Moon Sorcerer Distribution 1.0.xlsx (43 KB)
Rumors swirl of an ancient Aztec relic, the Head of Coyolxauhqui, having been lost in the Caribbean long ago. Will you join Vyse and the Pirates as they seek the relic to keep it out of the wrong hands? Will you join the Spanish in their holy duty to destroy such profane and blasphemous objects? Will you side with the Cursed and their sympathizers in an attempt to turn such a treasure into a powerful weapon? Will you make the Moon Sorcerer rise to glory, or will you make him fall into obscurity?

Return to the Spanish Main and join the hunt for gold, glory, and legends. Only you can challenge the balance of power in Pirates of the Cursed Seas: Rise of the Moon Sorcerer.

This set is inspired by a7xfanben's own Pirates of the Epic Seas fan expansion; be sure to check that out here!

Pirates of the Cursed Seas--Great Sea Distribution 1.2.xlsx (68 KB)
[1.2--Distribution 3] Much time has passed since 1.1, but 1.2 is out at long last. Some balance and many flavor changes have been made. To see all details, look at the change log!

[Current]

Enter the Great Sea to do battle with or against the new Kingdom of Hyrule faction. Hyrule and the Cursed have dueled through the ages, but with new weapons and ships, can the Kingdom defeat the Cursed and ambitious colonizers? Or will Ganondorf's Cursed form a new Gerudo Empire? Will the great navies of the west prove triumphant over the newly awakened Kingdom?

Only you can decide in Pirates of the Cursed Seas: The Great Sea!

Pirates of the Cursed Seas: The Great Sea is a fantasy expansion to the Pirates of the Spanish Main / Pirates of the Cursed Seas game, focusing on the new Kingdom of Hyrule and the Cursed, with the other main factions receiving fewer new pieces.

Pirates of the Spanish Main:: New VASSAL module for the Caribbean game By: a7xfanben
VASSALPiratesmodule3-2-2018.vmod (2.52 MB)
If you plan to participate in the Caribbean game (link below), this module will be required to play it. Only changes from the previous 2016 module are the subtraction of the World game territories and replacing them with the Caribbean game territories. The file size of the module itself is considerably smaller so there's a chance it will be a bit faster to load after starting the program.

My version of the rules, streamlined and combined into one document for new players. I plan to teach the game with these from now on. There are various tweaks throughout, but most of the rules are the same. Also added a few lines from the Pirate Code for important clarifications.

This file currently uses the Windlass font for the section titles; I plan to also upload a pdf of the same document with more standard font to avoid any issues. Thank you and please comment your thoughts.

*****[Previous Version]*****
At long last, the latest update to The Pirate Code!

This edition includes extensive small tweaks throughout, but no *major* rule changes. Countless entries were reworded or re-clarified so they now make more sense, a few abilities (particularly those that capture crew) were adjusted slightly so they'd be more functional, and numerous new entries were added to cover questions that have come up since the last update or things that simply were never adequately covered previously. Everything that has been updated or added is marked in blue text.

As usual, this file includes a complete set of bookmarks to make navigation easier (see the side tabs, if your PDF reader supports the feature).

If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to post here in a comment or contact me directly.

The World Game

Two of the greatest admirals in history, a7xfanben and Xerecs, have begun planning the grandest adventure of all-time! After playing many campaign games over the years, including one together on the VASSAL module (CG1), we have decided to embark on something completely unprecedented, something no one has ever done. Something that is truly on a global scale. A "game to end all games", if you will. Ironically enough, this game may actually never end!

I couldn't find the post, but for a few years now I've had vague thoughts of creating a complex, all-encompassing "Game of Life" based around Pirates CSG that would be my masterpiece. A game not just about naval warfare, but land warfare, politics, governments, trade, economies, revolutions, civilizations, home fronts, and more. This first, initial post is the beginning of that idea. I mentioned it to Xerecs in one of our MANY emails about CG1, and the idea took off. For a few days in April, planning this "World" game even took our attention away from CG1! I originally thought this "Game of Life" idea would come to fruition in many, many years from now (many decades actually). However, the VASSAL module (thanks again B.J. Olejnik!) has dramatically sped things up, and now my "masterpiece" of a game can see the light of day as soon as this year! Xerecs and I have spent parts of April and especially May developing the ruleset; what you see here represents hundreds of emails and only a chunk of the google doc we are using to collaborate. Ironing out the details has been a very fun and exciting process.

Before I go any further, I'd like to point out two very important things:
-This game cannot start until we figure out our computer issues. The game file is too large to play on.
-There will be opportunities for you to play in this game as well. These will be known as "cameo" (or guest) appearances, and more information is at the bottom of the ruleset.

In terms of the start date, we've made a checklist based on all of the things we need to do before starting the game. Without going into too much detail, our schedule is as follows: Establish the base rules that form the World game (post thread by end of May), Flesh out all house rules (June), Edit the module (July), Create the map (August). We are currently on schedule!

The World game is just that, a game based on a map of the world. This is mostly possible through the VASSAL module, since creating an ocean large enough for such a map would require immense amounts of space and time (obviously not to scale, but even so it would have to be a HUGE ocean). With so many real life elements involved, the game is very loosely based on historical concepts, but NOT historical events (there will be no reenactments or reconstructions of history). These concepts form the backbone of many of the rules, and they also explain the need for a ban list for the game. However, it is still a game, so plenty of concepts will be cut out or underrepresented - to save time and effort, and also to focus on Pirates CSG, which is still the game's core.

With the game file being saved at the end of every play session, this game has no timetable. Xerecs and I are both in our early 20's, and you can see from our previous campaign game experience that we LOVE Pirates. As a result, this could sort of be "that game" - a game that goes on and on with no end in sight. A "forever-long game", it could turn into just that. As of now we're hoping to play for many years, though that could turn into multiple decades. Many things will get in our way, and we may have to put the game aside for months or even years at a time. However, we'll always be able to return to it and resume playing once more. This also furthers the historical aspects of the game, since playing the game for many decades could represent decades or centuries of history, with the Age of Sail occurring in the general time period of 1500-1850. To put it simply, this thing has a chance to be BIG. Not just in terms of points in play, but in terms of impact and popularity as well. With enough complexity in the ruleset and enough time to play, it could turn into one of the most epic games in the history of gaming (tabletop/boardgaming/videogames/etc).

Without further ado, here is the first draft of our ruleset. It is not a finished product and we will likely have to edit it once the game begins. Feel free to peruse at your leisure!

Pirates of the Spanish Main:: Pirates generic crew rule sheets By: a7xfanben
Pirates generic crew rules.xlsx (10 KB)
Whenever I give someone a pack of Spanish Main, one of their favorite parts about it is the generic crew keywords and point costs spelled out right in the Complete Game rules. Here are two files that recreate that on one small sheet. This is the original, where 9 crew sheets can be printed on one page. The "v2" one is to scale at 2.5 inches wide and 3.5 inches high, to conform to the size of the rulebooks from the packs. These can be great for new players. Enjoy!

Pirates of the Spanish Main:: Pirates CSG prices By: a7xfanben
Pirates CSG prices.xlsx (14 KB)
Here is an excel file with average prices of various Pirates ships and packs. There is also a thread at Miniature Trading with even more info.

I would estimate that these numbers start sometime in the second half of 2011. I've probably missed some auctions as well, or disregarded smaller auctions (such as 3 packs of a set) since I didn't want to crowd my eBay watch list. However, this can still serve as a rough guide for Pirates prices on eBay over the past 4 years and going into the future.

For the first time, I've calculated the average prices for each individual listing. This is in bold after each section. I generally included punched copies or variations, but noted where I left them out for outlier reasons. Finally, the prices go in chronological order with the most recent listing at the bottom, so that first Guichuan listing at $37 was probably in 2011.

Pirates of the Spanish Main:: Tattered Sails & Shattered Gunwales By: ThomasC
Sails v0_8.pdf (674 KB)
This is a variant ruleset I came up with to make PotSM a bit more interesting, a TINY bit more realistic, (including wind rules) without complicating it too much.

I GM'd a game of it at Carnage Con 2013, and all the players liked it. The one comment that was universal in the After Action Report was that cannon ranges should be doubled. I've reflected that in this version with a side note.

I'd love to hear any feedback on these rules.
