I created this list as a place to display games you thought sounded good for new or non gamers, and wound up a disaster when you tried them. Feel free to share the highlights of your exasperating game nights!

The game that inspired the list! I tried this with my cousins a few nights ago. They love the game Ticket to Ride, but I always wind up with more than 5 players. I bought Bang! because it sounded easy and fun, and allowed 7 players.

Unfortunately I vastly overestimated their skills at discerning symbols listed on a key. I figured after the first 2 or 3 rounds, they would catch on, The game took forever because I had to explain that a "Beer Symbol" and a "three hat" symbol ment everyone got a beer! They also kept asking if terms like "Wells Fargo" and "Saloon" were realy the same in Italian and English! Sheesh!

This is another game I think of as "easy" yet seems over the heads of those I try it with. Mostly people get mixed up with the gemstones, and how you raise the stakes when you haggle.

The big problem I have with teaching this one to new players is their sense of ownership. I personally blame Monopoly! It's hard to get them to undrstand they don't "own" the hotel chain they just built. Half way through the game, they are still saying "My Hotel" when someone else clearly has a controlling stake in the shares.

I was looking through my game closet today, and had to add this to the list. It is a fun if somewhat random card game, that must be played once to be understood. Mostly there is just way too much for the Fase 10-Monopoly croud to remember.

I thought this would be a fun little pirate game for beginner gamers. Boy was I wrong. I read the rules, & it sounded really fun to me. Even while we were playing, it seemed fun to me, but both times I tried to play with others, they couldn't stand the game. They say they didn't know what they were doing. They were just putting cards down. It seems like a good game for beginners as it is a small game, but you have to know how to play as there aren't many components to the game to help people along.

Fun game, but not for beginners.
