Ok, we all have a game that we love to death or just enjoy tremendously, but it has this small annoying component or manufactered weakness that realy ruins the game a bit.
Please add your own entries for worst game-component ever:

Great game this. One of Avalon Hill's best efforts lately to broaden the public acceptance of wargames by sculpting the basic idea into a boardgame. And those transparent plastic bits are simply gorgeous. But....what happened with that monolith-piece???? Ran out of finances? Heavy cardstock? This is truly terrible. After 5 games with this piece of paper-ware you can throw your centerpiece in the bin. Shame on AH!

Shoot me, but I love the mission Command line.
Ok, they turn into a dice-fest most of the time, but what fun they are! Especialy the air-game offers exciting dogfighting without the need of constantly looking into the rule-booklet for reference-tables for damage or other annoying aspects typical for games that desperatly want to mimmick every single little detail of reality.
But...what about the packaging?
While the components are top-notch, the box itself is rather fragile and worse: when every component is assembled, fitting everything in the box again without the "floathing lit syndrome" is quite impossible!
Why not a bigger box like "Battle Ball"?

This annoying syndrome goes for many miniature-lines.
You have this mini that has thin legs standing up without the support of any cape to lean on and even when it is carefuly handled with satin gloves and a pincet the figure just bends over like some crazy japanese tourist.
Great if you're in a fantastic four heroclix-game, terribly annoying in any other setting.

This goes not only for Steve Jackson-games wich surely must be the king of cheap components but for many wargames with a grognard-factor. Paper maps!
I mean...you lay out 60 dollars on the table for a game and all you fiond in the box are a few metal minis and a map made of paper that begins to dissolve just by looking at it! We live in the modern age of endless possibilities of production and can produce the most stunning components imaginable the Days-of-Wonder way, so why do we have to put up with a rediculously fragile paper map?
Thank god for laminating...

We all have a copy of "Atlantis" lying somewhere in a dusty closet and occasionaly pull it out because deep down we know it's not all that bad as a game and a great way to introduce new people to the wonderful world of boardgaming.
And indeed, there's nothing better to convert a few innocent souls with a great-looking component-heavy boardgame. This parker-edtion (see the pic for reference) must be visualy the most stunning version available.
But the forgot one thing: it's almost impossible to place all thos tiny people on the islands without accidently bumping into other islands and tipping over all the rest.
Stability must be at the lowest here in boardgame-history...thought I'm sure other games rest on shelves wich can beat this one in the same category.
Why dind't they play-test this version?

None of the games above qualify for the title of this geeklist: The absolute worst game-components. You folk have no idea what absolute worst means.

For example, this is probably a good game, but there's no way to tell. The components are so bad the game is unplayable. Yes, I mean absolutely unplayable. I owned it for 18 years before selling it, and every two or three years would pull it out and try to play it again because I love the theme, but it just can't be done. THAT'S bad game components.

Another example is Merchants of Amsterdam, where the main gizmo breaks the first time you play it. Or maybe second, if your lucky. Third if you're both lucky and very careful.

Well, since most of these are fairly recent, I'll add a game whose components P'd me off when I was young.

Stupid pop-up godzilla would often just bounce off the ship it was supposed to eat. Or the ship would break as you were prying it from his jaws.

I mean, to those that think Nexus Ops has bad bits, you must've missed the entirety of the 70s and 80s, when the only thing worse than the bits were the games themselves.

Elfenland fits this description for me, even more so when played with Elfengold.

But hardly a game goes by without some of those (lovely wooden) town markers falling over and rolling across the board. Why, oh why, are they cylinders rather than cubes?

Components:
- Smallest glass beads I've ever seen - and you need to move them around. At least increase size of play mat and use larger bits
- Worse: wooden conical markers to keep track of various positions. Impossible to pickup and disposed to bumping everything else when it slips from your fingers...
(Note: BGG pix shows use of wood cubes in prototype version)
- "The Board" - which is consists of just tracks for scoring, science level etc. are not large enough to come close to holding muliple conical pcs. (see above) (Could simple pirate cubes from another game but why should we have to?)
- Cards: not that great and there are many of them. Since they are only a paper finish, they don't slide around...

Cosmic Encounter, one of the greatest games ever. It's been through four very different editions from four very different publishers. The third of the four... was unfortunate.

It was limited to four players, but that's not the end of the world. It's limited to just fifteen alien powers, but that's not horrible. The horror was this...

The plastic mothership in the Avalon Hill edition of Cosmic Encounter is not just difficult or fiddly, it's one of few game components that physically works against you as you play.

You cannot put ships into it with one hand, it takes two hands and your full attention. You cannot add ships without taking others out: if you put two ships into the challenge and decide to make it four, you need to take them out, fiddle with them, and put them back. If allies are at all indecisive there are going to be ships everywhere.

It looks cool. When people first see it they say, "Ooh, cool," but in play it distracts.

It gets my vote for Worst Game Component Ever.
