Having played some of the most liked games in the geek, there are a few of them that just don't work for me (although I can understand why other people enjoy them). Therefore I am the problem and not the game.

The purpose of this list is to try and explain why some of these great games don't click for me, and maybe won't click for others, for the same reasons.

Please add your own experiences with well loved games, that don't click for you.

Start at the top with the holy graal of gaming. I haven't played a lot of PR but I think it doesn't work for me because of the lack of player interaction. I know you are supposed to interact with the choices you make and deny the other players...but that's not enough for me. I like games where you can really shake things up (like in E&T) and PR seems too incremental for me, one wrong move and you're history.

I love the artwork.
Seriously, this one seems too mathy. When I played PG (and I only did it 3 or 4 times) it felt like I spent too much time in mental calculations instead of focusing on the strategy. Besides, it feels to clunky for me, with those odd phases and the printed table. Everyone else loved it, so just not my cup of tea, I guess...

I played this a couple of times and it really felt like 5 player solitaire. However, of the three, this is the one that i don't like less.
I can see an elegance in the design that PG clearly lacks and a less incremental and chess like feel than PR. Although it didn't click for me, I think I will give this one another shot sooner or later.

The setup time! It takes ages to set up all the armies. Besides, the whole game feels too scripted and it has to be like that, to please the fans. I think the experience is too much like reading the books and too less like playing a game. But it has a lot of really clever mechanisms and I can understand why people can enjoy it...just not me.

okay, I really hate this game and please no one tell me that if I don't like this game I'm playing it wrong. I just don't get it at all. The idea for the game is great but I've never enjoyed the game. It gives me a headache, like the one's I got in my college algebra class. Just seems like work.

I loved this game when I started playing it; however, it seems everytime I play it, the repetition just starts to get to me. Each new game of Settlers seems to suck more of the original fun from it and yet there are people who swear by it and will play it non-stop with no ill effects. Go figure.

Played this game a few months back. I was so bored I was trying to win desperately just so it could be over with. I won and the other players are going "Boy, this is a fun game. Let's play again!" I'm like "It's WHAT!?!? NO!" but they forced me to play again and I won a second time, hating every bloody second of it. Maybe there is a fun game in here somewhere but I never found. I really like the theme too. Murder mystery in an old abby sounds cool but I'd rather play old fashion Clue than this.

My wife and I when dating played many hours of cribbage so I thought this game would be perfect for us. We played it and I won. I wasn't too enamored by it but thought my wife was enjoying it so we started to play it again. We finish the second game and my wife goes "If you paid more than a dollar for this you paid to much." She hated it more than I did. We went and got the cribbage board out, played that for an hour and had a good time.

The only good thing to come from this game is I traded it and Plunder for a copy of GMT's Reds.

I need to preface this by saying I've only played this once...

Ugly game, I didn't feel like I was playing anything unique and the leader got such a huge lead it seemed like none of us could catch up.

I should probably try it again - but it's not at the top of my list. Meh.

This is pretty high up in the ratings, and being a game by His Holiness Knizia (I absolutely love T&E), I expected great things from this game.

Boy, was I disappointed.

I just found it to be lacking in excitement. Even when someone blocks one of my caravans, all I can muster is an "Oh well...I guess I'll go focus on another. Can we play Carcassonne the Castle next?"

I just hate this game, with ONE exception - the tactical game, which is a bit of good fun.

But the endless procession of moving around and around the board in some wierd fantasy carousel-like dance drives me nuts. Too abstract for a fantasy subject.

I had this and flogged it years ago. It` the only game I taught my dad (I was about 22 at the time) and he was very underwhelmed by it. So much so that he has NEVER expressed any interest in my geeky hobby again.
