Okay you wake up in the middle of the night and to your horror, your place is on fire. You have time to get one game - which one will you grab for? Yes you might be able to get two or three, but which one is the one you will reach for first? What are your reasons? Do you grab the one that has sentimental value, the one that is impossible to find again, the historical relic, or the one that will cost you a large amount of money to replace? Please add your choice and why!

This was a tough choice for me between Advanced Civilization and 1829 North (which would be spendy and nearly impossible to find again!). I have too many good memories in my favorite game, and I keep everything needed from the base game in the Advanced Civ box (gameboard, tokens, western expansion map, cards, rules etc. - weighs about 10 lbs!). Also, it would be really spendy to replace as well, but not impossible.

As my home is the repository of games for our gaming group, if there was a fire, I would grab El Grande. Not because its my favorite game, but because then people would have no choice in games, and I could finally get someone to play El Grande with me.

Definitely a CCG collection - between Doomtown, 7th Sea, and Age of Empires, AoE is the one for which I have a regular opponent these days, so that gets the nod. I then begin the long, painful process of rebuilding my boardgame collection.

Well, given that my capsule comment on this game already identifies this as the game I'd save from a burning building, this is quite the easy pick.

The reasons are probably too many to account for: it's out of print, sentimental value, it's a great game, it represents to me an aesthetic elegance that is rare in game design or in any other art form. If there's an afterlife I plan to book my appointment to discuss this little gem of creativity with Sid Sackson not long after I get out of comparable interviews with Beethoven and Proust.

't was a tough choice between Starfarers, El Grande and LotR. All fav games, all loaded with expansions.

As customizable as you want, could easily expand it if you want, can use the map and background details to role-play; the new edition's optional advanced rules will give you distracting reading material as you wade through the insurance forms. It's got dice for other uses. And its a heck of a fun game.

My first impulse is to grab my Advanced Civ box which also houses my western expansion map... but if we consider those two as seperate games then I will probably resign myself to reacquireing them and instead grab this expensive gem. If I lost Titan I doubt I would ever own another copy ever again simply because I don't play it enough (not because I don't like it). Everything else I could eventually replace.

Well this one or Strat-o-matic baseball, but the clincher is that i believe i can reacquire all i will have lost with S-O-M in the fictional fire. The price of this game and the 3 over the net homemade expansions, and the 3 published expansions, and their rarity, make this game the one i'd save.

A 1977 Eon set with the first five expansions. Expansions one and two are the original metallic versions. The moons are unpunched.

Hard to come by, and you won't get 'em cheap.

While this is an impossible to answer question (where does the fire break out? are the rest of the family safe? is the fire extinguisher closer than the games? etc), I might have to take Chinatown. I'd say it's the least easy-to-replace game that we play regularly. Sure, there are the extremely expensive games (Civ/Adv Civ, lots of old AH stuff, Black Vienna, McMulti), but we don't ever play those. Chinatown does come to the table regularly, so I'd have to save it.

My choice would have to be Carcassonne (with all the expansions, of course). There are very few games that hold my interest for more than 10 plays, but I have played Carcassonne well over 50 times and I'm still not even a little tired of it.

Do not beat me down but I would save duel of ages with all of it's glorious expansions. This is my groups favorite game and they would kill me if I saved some other game like robo rally or settlers of cataan.

I paid approx. $240 for Robo Rally, Armed & Dangerous, Amigo's Crash & Burn, and Radioactive!

It is both my most expensive AND my favorite boardgame.

I must save Twonky!

Swashbuckler is even with RR in terms of enjoyment but costs far less to replace.
