Every now again the lads get together for a gaming fest, this time it was destination Guernsey. Thanks to Mike for putting up and letting us take over his house for the weekend.

This is a list of the games we played and a few comments. The gamers were:

Tim – Rules what rules?
Matt – I love rules me!
Mark I – Roll yer own.
Mark II – Chef du party.
Tony – “Lazers!”
Mike – Mein Host.
Chris – I ain’t getting’ on no plane!

We turned up with a lot of games we didn't get to play. Axis and Allies, Zero, Kung Foo Fighting, Midway and D-Day.

Apart from Matt everyone loved it (mainly as he got killed early on) and after getting the rules sorted it was suggested adding the extra cards from Dodge City. The Sheriff found himself alone in a ‘High Noon’ sort of way, but sadly Mark I is no Gary Cooper and after a prolonged firefight and he was mercilessly gunned down by a bunch of no good Outlaws.

Overall a great opener for the weekend and one we'd play again especially as we all got into the spirit of things and pretended to be cast rejects from the ‘The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’.

A filler for those eliminated from other games. Good fun which makes me regret selling my Star Wars version. Matt’s Camel was no match for my DR1.

Not one I’d played before and I was suitably impressed. With seven players it’s a cracking cooperative game, with all of us (apart from the traitor as it turned out) trying to defend fair Camelot. The traitor, Mike not Tim as Matt thought, spent most of his time trying to persuade the Lady of the Lake to hand over Excalibur but she was having none of it. The Black Prince was send packing at least once, Lancelot’s Armour was retrieved as was the Holy Grail, even the Picts and Saxons got a bloody nose. With over half of the Round Table covered in white swords Camelot was kept safe with many of the knights after completing their quests returning to help against the constant threat of Siege Engines.

This was the weekend’s biggy and boy when people talk about this in hushed revered terms on the Geek I know why. With seven of us playing the two newbies, me and Mark I, buddied up, and I’m glad as we were overwhelmed in the first few turns, the rest having a huge advantage by understanding what is and isn’t possible. Everyone really got into things and made, broke then remade alliances. But the choice moment was to see the look on Mark IIs face as a huge force he was about to move was destroyed on Mercantile Rex because Tim forced a vote which allowed him to try out some artefact his race had stumbled across. I didn’t shed any tears as he played havoc with my peace loving Naalu. The game was brought to an abrupt end by a Public Objective Card, lucky for Mark II as his home planet had now come under attack by a now vengeful Naalu and Chris with the sneaky Hacan. Double lucky he then won along with Matt as they had the most VPs.

Not sure when we’ll get to play again as it requires a huge commitment by those taking part. I’m glad I’ve played it at least once.

Been a while since I played and it’s still as much fun as I remember, lots of quoting from the movie ensured everyone was in the mood for a ‘bug hunt’ and for once the Marines kicked alien butt. Keep them at least four hexes away and ensure you catch ‘em in the cross fire, praying of course none land on top of you.

Another great co-operative game long since out of print, made even better by the rare expansion set. Now I just need to get my collection of minis painted.

Useful expansion with large numbers of players, again liked by everyone but Matt who as you’ve probably guessed was gunned down early on. This time however the Sheriff and his one remaining Deputy kept the town safe.

Very quick and easy to pick up and equally quick to play so most of the crew had a least one game of this. My one game saw me defending Omaha Beach and the dice gods were with me so the poor Americans didn’t even get off the beach. Sadly we only had one set so we didn’t get play the whole D-Day scenario but I think a few of us might be picking this up before the next session.

I can see the luck factor would put some gamers off but all of us really enjoyed it.

Bit of a gaming blind spot for all of us except Mike who had played before. Easy game to pick up but there’s a deep game in there especially when you start adding the expansions. Who’d have though tile laying was so much fun.

The new AH edition is nicely put together and makes for a light a fun game, but with all of us joining in it was chaotic and dragged on. I really wanted to like it more but couldn't and was glad when it was all over.
