This list exists in order to share all of the foam core insert mods people have created. I have created none of these.

Feel free to add any that you know of, but please keep them to just inserts and not actual game pieces or map modifications.

10/2 Update: Thank you to everyone that continues to build up this list. It's amazing to see how creative our community is.

12/18 Update: Because keeping an index of this huge list is just not viable, you can use the "Titles Only" option for easier browsing.

I have the original 2006 edition(The Thief of Baghdad), and the box size is awkward and the insert was not designed to hold sleeved cards. Due to the depth of the box I made a riser to go underneath the foam core insert to fill in the bottom of the box. This was a simple straight forward build.

Created this for the Lookout edition based on a similar one for 1846 shown on this very geeklist. All with 5mm foam board. Base is 210mm x 300mm. Tile walls are 9mm. Card tray walls are 5mm and 10mm, in order to fit the companies in the well formed. It's about right to the lip of the box if you retained the original punch sheets. If not, you'll have ~5mm to fill.

Inspired by the 4 Layer Insert by VinegarBob I made my own.

I’ve used 3 mm foamcore for the bases. 13 mm high walls for the 3 layers holding tiles (4 tiles stacked are 12 mm thick). The section holding the cards has 6 mm high walls on the outside and in the middle and 4 mm between card stacks. This allows all company mats to rest on top of the cards and additionally prevents the certificates from sliding around in (vertical) storage.

track tiles

certificates and trains

... with company mats on top

Measurements:
Base 290*210 mm²
Walls 5 mm thick

Another 4 layer insert for 18xx:

Bases: 3 mm foamcore, 297*210 mm² (DINA4) = same size as manual, upgrade chart etc.
Walls: 5 mm foamcore
Bottom left layer (with mostly yellow tiles): 11 mm high walls to hold up to 5 tiles per compartment
Other layers: 5 mm high walls to hold up to 2 tiles per compartment

Some compartments are pretty tight as I got a little lazy while marking locations for walls. Not a good idea If I’d do it again I’d use 3 instead of 5 mm foamcore for 3 long "vertical" inner walls to widen each compartment by 1.5 mm.

The stack of 4 layers is about 38 mm high. Set on top of the boards this leaves just enough room for manual & Co on top plus cards and tokens on the side:

The insert for this game is good. I only added a layer above the cards for stability.

All elements are made from 5mm and 3mm foamcore.

UPDATED on 07/14/19

With the release of the Babel expansion, I was finally able to redo my very first insert. 24 inserts and counting, I've definitely learned a lot. This box contains the base game, Leaders, Cities, Wonder Board expansion, Babel, and a few promos. Overall, I'm very happy with how this one turned out.

The top level contains all the Wonder boards and a large money tray for easy access by all players around the table. The middle level has three removable trays: Combat tokens, Debt tokens, and Great Projects tokens. The bottom level stores all the cards (divided by Age & expansion), Babel pieces, Great Project cards, and a few miscellaneous tokens.

Thanks to colinmarsh for showing that it was possible to fit everyone in one box and another thank you to mauigreen for his wonderful card dividers.

For more information on this insert, detailed plans, and tips on making your own, please check out my geeklist, 28green's Collection of Foam Board Inserts.

7 Wonders + Leaders + Cities

Top level holds two trays. Topmost tray holds all 7 Wonders Boards (including space for Wonder Pack), Scorepad, and Wonder Cards within tuck box. Bottommost tray holds all tokens and is removable for ease of play.

Bottom level holds two removable trays. Tuck boxes on the right hold Ages I to III. Tuck boxes on the left hold Guild, Leaders, and Cities cards. All cards are sleeved within horizontal tuck boxes.

This thread is my do it yourself post on how to replicate my 7 Wonders foamcore storage solution. It incorporates the base game, promos & the first 3 expansions (Leaders, Cities & Babel) into the original game box.

This files page has a downloadable Visio PDF which has all the measurements as well as a PDF of printable stickers which I added to the bases of all the trays.

So it seems this one need an insert, like others have found out, after adding in Babel.

I used some inspiration from others as well on this one, its hard not to!

I opted for a removable tower for the Babel tiles and T-shape around that and the card box. I also do NOT have cities. I don't think I will get it, but I made sure there was room for it based on the component lists.

I did a full run through from a design perspective on a little blog, Better Boxes Through Foam Core,I started here. I hope to do more work on it, but frankly this one took four hours! between the build and photos.

Check out My Foamcore 101 & 102as well as all my personal inserts HERE.

This is my foamboard-insert for 7 Wonders and its Leaders-expansion (-> File-Link):

It's also designed to store the Cities-Expansion, which I do not own myself.

I like the card decks to be stored horizontally and wanted to include a removable card tray. That's why I tried to make my own design inspired by fusionkast.
In addition I don't own the Babylon Expansion and I'm not so eager to get it either, so I wounldn't need space for it in here as well!

I put together this simple foamcore insert to house 7 Wonders, Cities, & Leaders all in the same box:

I didn't make space for Babel because I have no intention of buying it.

Cards are divided by age and set. Money, conflict tokens, and debt tokens all have separate tuck-boxes. Score sheets sit underneath the conflict tokens. Here's a pic with the tuck-boxes removed:

This is one of the simpler foamcore designs I've worked on recently, but I'm really happy with how it turned out.

for his original design.thumbsup

Insert holds base game, Leaders, Cities, Babel and Wonder pack.

I made a few tweeks so that is doable entirely with 5mm foam core. I made no tray for the cards and changed the orientation. I use colored sleeves to distinguish the eras. I also made the babel tile tray different to spread them and lower the height so the lid to close completely.

Hello BGG Community,

I designed a new insert for 7 Wonders, holding
- Base Game
- Leaders Expansion
- Cities Expansion
- Wonder Pack
in the original Box.

Components:
- Scoresheet Tray
- Wonderboard Tray
- Cards Tray (credits to mauigreen for his card dividers)
- Peace Marker Tray
- Victory Point Marker Tray
- Military Markers Tray
- Coin Markers Tray

Here you can find the ZIP archive, containing:
- fotos of my 3d model that served as a blueprint
- fotos of the actual insert, packed into the box
- measurements of each part

Hope, you like it.
Cheers!
