This list exists in order to share all of the foam core insert mods people have created. I have created none of these.

Feel free to add any that you know of, but please keep them to just inserts and not actual game pieces or map modifications.

10/2 Update: Thank you to everyone that continues to build up this list. It's amazing to see how creative our community is.

12/18 Update: Because keeping an index of this huge list is just not viable, you can use the "Titles Only" option for easier browsing.

Yes, yet another Agricola insert.

I've been putting this one off for ages but finally got fed up with the box lid not fitting properly as I was using a plastic box inside the box to hold all the pieces. It allowed reasonably easy set up and gameplay but the plastic box wasn't ideal as often pieces were difficult to get out from the corners. And of course the box lid sat a good 10mm higher than it should.

Anyway this wasn't a super simple build. I have the original base game only with sleeved cards and wanted to get it all in one box with ease of play the main consideration. I initially hoped to get individual trays for players for their pieces but after looking at the selection of inserts already posted along with some in depth calculations, I felt it wasn't possible with the 5mm foamcore I had. The game boards are good and thick in this game and I definitely wanted everything to fit with no lid lift.

The pictures below are what I finally settled on.

The first picture shows three trays out of the box with the game boards in the bottom of the box.

This picture shows the card box in place. The dividers are simply the cut down front of the boxes I had made to previously store each card selection. (Files from BGG, sorry I can't remember publisher, will credit if I find them.) The cards need to be on a lean to get them to fit.

In goes the bottom tray containing player pieces and tiles etc. Again the tiles need to be on a lean to get them to fit within the height parameter.

The top tray containing resources. The thin rulebook sits on top and the paper card dividers fold down as the lid is placed.

Here is my take on the Agricola Expert edition box insert. Inspired by a lot of other examples you all made so thank you!!

The box closes just 5mm above the ground. I've used 3mm foam board for all the boxes and 5mm foam board for the middle part, which is the only part glued to the box itself.

On top are all the game boards and the manual:

Agricola is one of my all time favourite games and So when I first heard of the Revised Edition I knew I’d be picking it up at some point. My old Z-Man copy of the original edition was a minefield of baggies and tackle boxes; I was determined to get it right this time.

My constraints: I wanted to sleeve all the cards, I wanted to leave room for both the Agricola: Artifex Deck and Agricola: Bubulcus Deck in the box, and I wanted the box to close flush. Sure...

The fully loaded insert. All the boards and manuals fit on top, but only just. You’ll notice that two of the card slots are mostly empty. These will take the Agricola: Bubulcus Deck once it realeases.

A close up of the resource tray emptied. Unfortunately, due to the constraints of space, I’ve had to combine resources into single tray compartments in ways that seem most logical. The compartments themselves are colour coded and have curved bases to help in getting the bits out.

The main box with the resource and player trays removed. There is a little bit of room under here to fit the major improvement and round cards. At one end of the box are all the room/field tiles as well as the first player marker, begging tiles and recommended space markers.

The empty insert. As space is at an absolute premium in this box, I had no room for risers to help get the cards out. Instead I’ve cut holes in the bottom layer of foamcore instead. It works so well that I’ll probably revisit my Viticulture insert and do the same there.

For instructions on how to make the curved “slides” used in this insert, please have a look at this post on my geeklist.

For more of my foamcore inserts please check out my geeklist: Penguinised's Adventures in Foamcore

A tight fit, to say the least! This insert holds everything from the base game, both building expansions, a dry erase marker & eraser (I use a single laminated score sheet instead of the score pad), farmer meeples (sold separately), and resource meeples (sold separately).

For more details on this insert and tips on making your own, please check out my geeklist, 28green's Collection of Foam Board Inserts.

All trays are removable. Tray holding tiles accommodates all the tiles from base game and both expansions. Currently only own first expansion. Left tray holds farm extensions on top and Scorepad fits over the animals in the middle (above orange tape).

Thank you for your great ideas!

This files page has a downloadable Visio PDF which has all the measurements. I will post a PDF of the printable stickers for the bases once I obtain permission.Update: I received permission to upload from Z-man and the stickers are now on the files page.

This is my third foam core insert. It was more challenging than larger games like Elder Sign and Eldritch Horror because fitting all the components into such a tight space required trimming and resizing some of the inserts. I finally got everything into the box, though the lid will not come all the way down with the score pad inside. The fit is sufficient to be portable, though.

I made an insert for the base game only, in spite of the fact that I'm sure I'll buy an expansion at some point. I couldn't stand the disorganization for the duration. Both trays come out and the board, etc. are underneath.

Here is my solution for this fantastic game. I wanted something to make it as quick as possible to set up and keep everything in its place while traveling. I gave the box a good shake sideways and upside down with everything it it and nothing was out of place afterwards so I would call it a success. The only issue is that I wish I had had some more room to make the player piece bins a bit bigger because I have large hands.

Small game, but in need of an insert to keep it organized.

I really liked the original box insert art, so I designed a bottomless insert to keep the tiles in place.

I then made a top tray.

All together:

Just got ahold of Alchemists; the game is full of odd shaped pieces and boards. Was a bit of a challenge to get it all to fit in two layers.

Heres the packed box with main boards and instructions on top

Under the main boards, top tray with assorted pieces, cauldrons, tokens, money, cards and score pad. The ribbon tokens for theories are stacked vertically, with one on top.

Bottom tray holding the player boards, screens, and lab results trays.

Both trays

Empty bottom tray showing supports for the triangular laboratory records.

Earlier this week I began my biggest DIY-board gaming project so far.
Making an insert for Alchemists was (to me at least) a daunting task - so many shapes and TONS of pieces to fit into the box!

Thanks to Corey Thompson and Wouter Debisschop for inspiration :-)

- everything fits inside the box.

- The containers with player tokens aren't touched by the theory board. They are 5mm higher then the rest of the insert as they are removable. With the theory board in place they line up evenly guaranteeing that the main board works as a lid, keeping the player tokens in place.

- Small 'hooks' makes sure the theory board stays put, thus making sure that all the small pieces and cards stays in their container.

- After removing the theory board

- Everything is easy to take out

- After removing the top layer, the player screens, notepad and all the tokens are revealed

- Underneath the player screens you'll find the top-player screen.

Took quite a while to put it all together, but it came out great! Can be shaken without all the pieces leaving their holders.

Hello folks! This is my first post on BGG, so I hope I did everything right.

I made a custom insert for the game “Alea Iacta Est”. I liked the idea to have a dice tray within the box, because rolling your dice is pretty much what you do in the game.
Unfortunately the boundary of the tray is a bit low and the surface with the felt finish is very springy. Therefore you have to throw the dice in a low angle, then it works just fine, or you just leave the tray in the box and use the box as a higher boundary.
The other foamcore components are very plain and simple.

The insert that comes with the base game had way to much unused space but my brother in-law was kind enough to get me Treasure Chest and Viziers Favor expansions. Which meant that the original insert had to go. I spent some time looking over the components and this is what I came up with...with room to spare.
