Many prototypes are created to produce the thousands of games on this site. As a game designer myself I know that many of them end up collecting dust or are cannibalized for yet other prototypes. But I would like to think that some of them have ended up on the Isle of Misfit Board Games.

CARCASSONNE: BUTCHERS & BAKERS
This expansion lets the meeples explore another two simple occupations. Unfortunately both involve the wearing of white uniforms. The only way the players can tell their pieces apart is by taste. Your choices are beef, sourdough, chicken, croissant, fish and jelly-filled.

POWERGRID: CALIFORNIA
The power plant deck in this version is made up of all wind and methane plants, but has one cold fusion plant that makes the players think that it powers twenty-two cities. A map of Antarctica with one city is on the back.

HAMSTERROLLE: WITH REAL HAMSTER
The hamster in this one of a kind prototype was smart enough to chew his way out of the box, but not before leaving evidence of his brief captivity with somewhat irregular wooden pieces and other surprises.

RICO RICARDO - A COMEDY GAME OF ERRORS

Each turn, players will select a role - Rico, Lucy, Fred, or Ethel. Rico provides money and anger, Lucy consumes money but generates laughter, Fred provides misunderstanding, and Ethel has powers similar to those of Lucy, but isn't as loud. (Sold only in black-and-white.)

Twilight Struggle, the prototype was actually all about controlling the Twilight (moonlight), but it became difficult to quantify. In the end, they decided to make the Twilight be secondary to the Struggle.

Traumfabremake:

Ever want to wind back the clock and put right what once went wrong in films? Now you get that chance! You can make the Matrix trillogy not suck, or maybe fix the Star Wars prequels. You can take special actions to just say no to movies like Home Alone 2/3/4 and even stop Steve Guttenberg from making ANY movies. The game is over when someone takes a classic film and butchers it.

Beowulf: The Book-on-Tape of the Novel Adaptation of the Movie Boardgame

Dr. Knizia is at it again with an old game, a theme, and a hot glue gun. This time, he revises Monkey Madness, where now you're drawing little colored Grendels out of a bag. It also has larger boards and fancier pieces, to ensure it takes longer and costs more money.
