OK, there seem to be a lot of 'Games I Played as a Child' geeklists. Here's one of games that, for one reason or another, bring back terrible memories.......

Evil due to two factors. First, extreme tedium, especially when you only have two players, each own half the board, and you just keep passing rent money back and forth for hours. I remember one game lasted two and a half days...

Second, my little sister Michele always, always, ALWAYS beat me in the end.

Ah, Candyland. My other sister, Nicole, once stacked the deck with this game and got a long lecture on cheating. She might have gotten away with it if it hadn't been so OBVIOUS - she immediately got to move her pawn through all the 'fun' candy spaces, while mom's pawn moved forward only one space at a time...

This game is so evil there is no picture yet. Actually, the evilness of this game was that it was the ONLY gaming option at a certain elderly relative's house. I remember being 11 and spending the ENTIRE day playing this - yes, it was boring, but listening to the grownups talk about funerals and operations would have been worse...

What's evil about Pit? It's a great, fast paced game, right? Try playing it with two sisters, even if you manage to beat them to the bell, they will be right behind you and whack your palm down into the ringer on that bell so hard, the indent will remain for the rest of the game and your hand will sting...

Go ahead, stick your finger down in there where the marbles fall. I won't slam the sliding part in to smash your finger, REALLY I won't, I'm your SISTER aren't I?

True story - see that little metal marble in the bottom of the picture? My sister Michelle put that in her mouth (when she was WAY old enough that she should have known better) and it got stuck in her throat. My father had to stick his hand down her throat to get it out and to this day I can remember him pulling his hand out of her mouth all covered in blood, but with that stupid marble. After we got back from the emergency room, that game was gone and we never saw it again.

For my 13th birthday I asked for Dungeon. Instead I got this. My mom was SO glad to have found a game that wasn't VIOLENT for me. Thanks, ma, I was surely saved from a life of crime. Of course no one would ever play this game WITH me...

The horror of this experience drove me to play D&D, which had the decided advantage of not LOOKING like a game when we weren't actually playing, just some books and papers that could be snuck in and out of the house with the homework.
