It was rare that I could get others to play boardgames with me, so I often played alone. This one got tons of use. I remember role-playing the detective as I interrogated the witnesses. I know it holds a high rating for me due to nostalgia than for the quality of the challenge it presents to me as an adult.

Yes, another electronic one. Like I said, I had to resort to solo game play often. I got this for Christmas one year, although I really wanted the hand-held game , but when I gave it a go I really enjoyed it very much. It really forced me to use imagination and focus to get into the game. I honestly justify my high rating of this a bit more than just for nostalgia because it can still hold my attention, but maybe that's not saying much for me. ;-)

I'm probably really treading on thin ice with this list...pun intended...but what the heck. I'm a geek and proud of it. Just maybe a different geek than another. This one was played by me when I was in second grade. I went over to a friend's house and fell in love with the game. I asked for it many times, but always got other things. I don't know why I didn't just shell out some of my allowance to get it when I got older...but now I've pacified my nostalgia by getting it as an adult and playing it with my daughter. Sure, I "get" the game now, but it is fun seeing my daughter have fun with it. This one is truly rated high because of nostalgia.

Yet another game I drooled over while watching Saturday morning cartoons, but I never got. Maybe 'they' thought I'd shoot my eye out or something? Well, now that I have some disposable income I can buy up all the junk that I was deprived of when I was a child. I've played this with my daughter until my hands were all cramped up. It's mindless fun. Nostalgia value, definitely.

I suspect I'm not the only one. This was the game that drew me into the hobby, and for that reason I left it as a 10 until very recently. It's been surpassed by a number of games in my Top 10, but still hangs around there because I played it so many times when I got it around 8 or 9 years ago, and it was the only eurogame I had for so many years. I'm thinking about trying this with the "Deck of Dice" to breathe new life into it. Maybe then Cities/Knights won't get so unabalnced so quickly, we'll see. Great idea for a list by the way, I loved Crossfire too, although it was quite dangerous playing with me and my brothers.

I think this one came out partially as a result of the popularity and success of "Stop, Thief!"

I recall it was quite a bit of fun, and unique in it's own right... searching for treaure, then diving for treasure, knowing when to resurface when you're about to run out of air, stealing treasure from other players...

I have a real soft spot for this game. It is a good game, essentially like "A House Divided" in space with some additional rules. I can't think of a boardgame that I played in college more than this one. I also remember some muli-game campaigns that we played to conclusion.

Well, I grew up with the game's headquarters next door, I worked as *the* employee for a year, and I almost won an annual tournament. Cosmic Wimpout is not a poor game, but it really does get better when spiced up with some personalized rules or house rules. Also, I'm aware that the printed rules for this game are extremely confusing to read.

One of the many games that was picked up during a vacation to the U.S. when I was 9 or 10 years old. We played this game every chance we could, just to show it off to the neighbour kids, because you couldn't buy it in Canada... at least no Saskatoon toy store ever stocked it back in the 60s.

Over the past 40 years, the box has disappeared, but I still have the game and all of its components stored away. I pull it out every year or so, just for the nostalgia factor.

Apart from standing small plastic soldiers up and throwing things at them, this was the first wargame (loosely defined) that I ever played.

I'm not that sure that it was a great game, but the board and peices went a long way to create the atmosphere and some house rules helped this get a lot of play when a single numeral was sufficient to display my age. I recently rebought this on ebay purely for the nostalgia value.

I played this solo, played with up to 4 players, wore out the mechanism in one tower, and had to do improvised repairs on it's replacement. A friend and I eventually played it so much we didn't need the board anymore.

OK, so it is not a great game by any kind of modern standard. But picture yourself with the all 3 keys, the biggest army you can afford, food running out, and you open the Tower to find the Brigands outnumber you by a healthy margin. Your army is withering when suddenly you pull out a win and the Brigands start taking it on the chin. Cue the music from "Ride of the Valkyries"...

* My first foray into wargaming
* Introduced me to Avalon Hill
* Created a lifetime hobby

This one really shows it's age, but I've had my copy for over 30 years.

Talk about nostaligia...

Mousetrap was the first game I bought with my own money. It cost me $4 in 1964. The contraption is so fun to assemble and operate, but the game is so lame! At the end the trap is all built and the mice just go around and around waiting for someone to land on the cheese at the same time someone else is on the "turn the crank" space.

I absolutely love this Monopoly-style game, even though there are many better options out there. I'll never pass up the opportunity to play this one, and therefore have it scored accordingly in my collection (an 8). But it doesn't deserve that rating based on gaemplay or components or theme or any objective criteria...
