I have read in numerouos lists and reviews about hoow luck is a horrible factor in games. Almost everytime i read something there is someone talking about a game having to much luck. I would like to take this opportunity to say that luck is indeed a needed part of every game now im not talking about yahtzee style luck, but luck creates drama luck makes huge comebacks possible and yes it does at times make a game unfair but that is the nature of luck. so here is an opportunity to say how you feel.

Now the number one game. I dont see any luck here and this does show that you don't need luck to have a great game.

now the number three game(i skipped number two cause i know nothing of caylus) this game has loads of luck you could get some horrible draws. But it is evened out by there only being 4 colors in a hand of 6 and the fact that you can change your hand for one of your actions. Now i do own both puerto rico and T&E but i find T&E to be the far superior game.

Settlers ismocked all the time for being to random and the luck of the dice but would you play this game if it were the same everytime every game we have one player gets hosed and all the other players have a close game. but nobody ever wants to put this game away. The game always has tension there is always that come on roll a 6 atmosphere and if there were no luck and the board was not random it would not be as great as it is.

Any card game has a huge amount of luck. But with every other game that is good that has luck you need to have a way to offset luck with good play. And thats how you make a great game. it is that right mixture of luck with strategy and tactical play that make a game. And games with luck give a player who has made a bad move a slight chance to redeem themselves. If you make a bad move in chess or go it could mean the entire game if you are playing someone good. while in other games you still have the chance to come back.
