I've recently been hooked by the boardgame virus, I purchased a bunch of games based upon reviews found here. After a couple weeks of purchasing games my wife decided I couldn't purchase any more until I actually found people to play them with. So I decided to invite friends and co-workers over hoping to hook them as well. I asked for some suggestions here on the geek, http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/95400.

This list is about the results of my gathering. We invited pretty much everybody I know, I made the mistake of not requesting RSVP's so we didn't actually know how many would show up. Which made planning for food and drinks a little harder. We ended up with about 23 adults and 12 kids. We had hired 2 baby sitters to keep the kids out of our hair, which worked very well. A few of the older kiddos played games with us. I told everybody 2 - 8, people started arriving just after 2, and the last people left just before 10. We started gaming around 2:30.

We ended up serving mini sandwiches, chicken nuggets, chicken wings, and chips for munchies. Around 5ish my wife made a cheese fondue for which we had fruit, veggies, and a couple breads. After that she made chocolate fondue, which was served with fruit, pound cake, marshmallows, brownies, cheesecake, and a chocolate mouse cake. Everybody was very happy with the munchies.

Overall everybody had a good time, and I think I found a few couples to explore further gaming with. I put a few pictures here, http://www.greisz.com/wordpress/?p=17.

We started our first table with Blokus. Blokus remained going strong until the party ended. Everybody loved it. Unfortunately I was at the other table all night, so I didn't get a chance to try it.

We opened our 2nd table with a 3 person game of Loot. After one game we switched to 4 players. Favorite moment, during the 3 player game, a player played a merchant, followed by everybody playing a pirate of 2, followed by everybody playing a pirate captain, talk about gloating only to be quickly shut up by the next play. Great fun all around. First game had a surprise winner at the end, as the other 2 thought they had won.

Meanwhile, my wife started a third group off on this one. I'm not a big fan of Trivial Pursuit, but play because I like to play games, and others like it. Luckily I didn't have to play as I was running table 2.

After Loot we switched to Carcassonne with the Inns and Cathredrals expansion. We used the tiles and super meeple from the expansion but didn't play with the new rules. We had 5 for this, none of whom had played, so it took longer than it should have. Everyone enjoyed the game and would play again.

After Carcassonne, I pulled out the crate of Apples to Apples. We played with 9. Again, it was fun and everybody enjoyed it. The cases people made for cards got to be pretty outrageous at times.

After the Apples to Apples, we tried Werewolf. People were split 60 / 40 or so with the majority enjoying the game. We played 3 rounds, all of which were won by the Werewolves.
