Looking for a list of games that play well in some manner of a league, where theres some kindof persistance, or sub-game that exists outside the game in between matches.

Obviously, all collectible card games fit into this, but I'm looknig for something with more of a boardgame feel.

I know all of the collectible figurine games (Warhammer, etc.) have aspects of this, but I've heard bad things about Games Workshop as a company, as well as not really having an interest in investing thousands of dollars in shaped pewter.

Please add to this list as you see appropriate.

This game is so far the only non CCG game I've heard about in regards to league play. Sounds interesting, and I'm thinking about picking it up, despite the fact that its made by GW. Seems like theres the opportunity to have loads of fun tracking your characters from game to game, or morning the loss (death) of your star QB right before the playoffs.

Heres another one that has the ability to design your units / team before the match, although theres no real incentive to using the same team in future matches.

Same idea as Battletech, never played it, so don't know if there are any rules supporting multi session gaming. Like most Steve Jackson games, this doesn't seem to have especially good reviews. I've heard that it was interesting once, but not the kindof thing you really want to play alot.

Another SJ game. Frog points out that it allows improvements between matches. I played it ubercon this year, and wasn't impressed. Seemed like alot of dice rolling, not much else. Kudos for going with an interesting theme, but I'm not really convinced that first person shooter games were meant to be played on a table.

SeanT recommends this game for league play. While it doesn't look like theres any kindof solo design your car / team that occurs outside the game, nor any kind of persistance between matches, this looks like a fun game none the less. Might need to pick it up.

Cliff Fuller (Hack Ryder) recommends GolfProfi. I'm not really sure what to make of this one. I'd be willing to give it a shot, but doesn't look like something I want to purchase. Cliff is a strange bird anyway.

Chris Wilson (Wulfen) mentions BattleBall. Looks a little tame and that serious custom rules would be required to make it work with league play. On the other hand, big props to making a game that has a hex-grid without making it look like it does (hex grids, while awesome, scream dork!)

Also, i'm not sure if those pics are of mineatures painted by the photographer, or if they came that way. If they came that way, then wow!

This one was recommended by Jon Power. Looks like its a fun game, but doesn't look like it has the variable player powers, or any kindof persistance from one game to another. You can take just about any game and make it a "league" by playing it multiple times and keeping score. Really looking for a game designed to be played this way, where you start to feel an attachment to your team.

Thanks for the suggestion Jon, I might pick this one up anyway.
