First one that came to mind. I'm not sure how the later editions did, but the insert in my first edition copy was worse than worthless. Add in the expansion and there's no possible way to keep the insert.

by far the worst one I ever owned. I actually think this is the same exact insert as another game that used it first.

If you look where the baggies with the dice are, you'll see 4 sections (semi connected). You would think those are for the casino tiles, but there are more than 4 casino colors. The top left section is where the dice come originally, but obviously that needs to be used for other stuff.

If you look in the middle right you'd think that is for cards, but the cards supplied with this game are wider than that section, so those finger slots are useless.

Yea, I threw this one out right away and got a few baggies.

So many pieces absolutely no storage solution. Nothing fits right in this box expect a plano box fits nicely under the insert to hold everything but the board pieces are still floating around in the box. Come on FFG everything else about your components rock why oh why can't you make a decent insert.

Possibly the most useless insert ever. It only seems to be there to keep the tiles from moving around on the store shelf. I can't imagine stacking the tiles inside this thing again, so I pitched it immediately.

While I do appreciate the great amount of effort it must have taken to design this insert, after one go at putting everything in it's special little place, I tossed it away. With so much set-up time, there is no way I am putting all the components back into the insert. Now I just put everything in plastic bags.

Actually, the few baggies that were included with the game are of a great, thick quality. I wish they'd ditched the insert for more of those baggies!

I can't think of any board games I have with absolutely useless inserts (I don't even remember what my copy of Pandemic came with, but it's not a first edition because the research centers are small), so you'll have to settle for a game whose insert is useful until you decide to sleeve the cards. The cards are not a standard size, so I took some Energy Cards from the Pokémon Trading Card Game and sleeved the City Square Off cards with them. Unfortunately, the insert cannot hold these cards at all. AT. ALL.

A prime example of how even a very simple insert can be messed up. And this isn't a small company, either.

The game consists of sixty regular-sized playing cards and nothing else. The box is big enough to store the cards three times over.

Yet the insert can't hold the cards without them sliding around. The wells are too shallow. If you look at the picture, you can see the top few cards in each pile are loose.
