Yesterday, I printed up and made the large format cards of the game's Version 2. Looking forward to trying out the changes.

I've got a few other games on the cutting board as well.

I am playtesting a new game from White Dog Games called It Will Cost What it Will. It's on the Battle of Mars-la-Tour. It's an interesting battle since it's a cross of the modern with ancient tactics. It's considered the last successful cavalry charge in warfare. Unfortunately, that unlikely success gave military commanders the idea that charging your horses into a torrent of gunfire was a way to win battles. It took 50 years of failure to convince them otherwise.

Anyway, the playtest kit wasn't too hard to build. The map is printed on regular cardstock and the counters are mounted to thin sheets of cardboard. There's several counters so it took awhile to build. It looks like this will be an fun game.

I had the printouts for this lying around since last year and the easter weekend finally gave me the time to finish it.

It is a quick and easy build, especially thanks to the well thought out files that accommodate single and double sided printing, A4 and Letter.

And here is my finished build
Board Game: Xscape

Fronts and backs for the tiles were printed separately on standard paper and laminated, glued to 2mm Finnpappe (a type of cardboard) and edged black.
Cards printed doublesided on 180g/m² cardstock, laminated and also edged black.

Threw this together over Easter weekend. I mounted the cards onto 80lb cardstock, and mounted the guild cards onto old manilla folders. The folders work great, and I wish I had more of them for the other cards. I also did my first folding board. Broke down and bought a roll of bookbinding tape, and cut the two halves out of 30 ply chipboard. (thanks for the advice Todd!)

I'll get some pictures up whenever my phone decides to upload the pictures to Picassa.

Even though it is slightly off. (like half a millimeter) I'm happy with how the board turned out. I edged it with clear tape to protect the edges. With any luck I'll get a chance to play this up in Duluth this weekend.

I made a homemade version of Weykick I call simply "magnetic soccer".

It was my most challenging build yet, mainly because I know so little about woodworking. But, I really enjoyed the project.

The family had fun playing it this weekend. The greatest reward for me is hearing my grandsons giggling as they played.

on my "flatpack" version of this last month about truly flatpack custom dice, I just had to give this another go. I went ahead and partially re-created the Dauntless in Inkscape, added a bit of iconography (not sure I like it actually, but it'll keep my head straight late at night) and some less abstract explosions and smoking holes (generated in GIMP), inspired by the work of

. I also went ahead and changed all the numbers so that the number + d12 must equal or beat a TN of 12. Guns now have to trade a range modifier either into the to-hit roll or the damage roll. Targets have size numbers so that the smaller flyers are harder to hit too. It adds to the overhead and slightly fogs the calculation so that I roll before I know the number I need.

I finished up my build of Sneak Attack last night and was able to get in a quick game as well.

I mounted all the playing pieces to thin cardboard. Since all the units are double sided, they came out at a nice thickness. I mounted the bases to some thicker cardboard to give them a little extra heft. The mechs were sort of a pain to cut out. There is lots of detail on them so it took me a couple of days to get them all assembled. They definitely look very cool once they're done.

Despite how cool everything looks, I sort of with the game had just used counters. The mechs don't fit very well on the board and it's kind of hard to get them facing in different directions when they are next to each other. I'm thinking of printing the map at double the size just so the mechs Also, although it's an okay game, it only lasts 10 minutes and doesn't have a lot of variety. I'm afraid that I spent way more time constructing the game than I ever will playing the game. Nonetheless, it was a fun build.

I had to break the board in to separate pieces so it could be printed.

Currently I am working on Finished editing the rule book using Publisher so it can be printed in a nice booklet format and stapled in the middle.

UPDATE: I think I am now finished with the game. Rulebook printed, boards made, and cards cut. I will try to get some pictures up this weekend.

UPDATE 2: Here's a picture of the semi-final finished product. I still need to make a box to store it in. I also need to get a corner rounder so I can make the cards look a little more clean.

Putting together a nice production of a custom 2 player board that someone made and posted here on the geek for a friend (mounted on chipboard & laminated). Using the version with the borders.

Brass: 2 Player Board Hi Quality

This is now finished...happy with it although one seam is just a bit wider than I would really like it to be. Hopefully my friend will be happy with it!

Neolithic Ops was one I had on the SiL's Christmas list for a while. The major pieces, along with backing sheets, are printed and sealed. The Players' Aides are as well. The one thing stumping me are the round Berry Counters. I've been resisting spending the $25 for a round punch, but this might be the game that pushes me into buying one.

Fortune smiled upon me in a surprising way and, with little time to prepare, I was able to print out and work on a copy of the amazing Todd Sanders beautiful redesign of Barbarian Prince.

I made a four-fold board and all of the player charts almost exclusively with six-ply manilla folder boards. (See this article for my experiments with mattboard, 2x chipboard and manilla folders) I was quite happy with the results.

Chalk another one up for the SiL's Christmas present list.

(I really have to start making boxes for all of these games...)

As a long-time Godzilla fan, this seemed like a natural for me. cool

I had created backing sheets (green with the 'Zilla monster inset in a square and the game title above) but the sheets that I initially printed out didn't match up well. I can't tell if the originals were formated for A4 paper or what. I ended up opening each page of the board in PS and cropping out everything but the board itself. (Eliminating the graphic for where the image fit on the board and the game logo.) These I printed out in Acrobat at full size.

I mounted to board on 2x chipboard (my preferred method for foldable boards) and will be mounting all of the buildings, people, fire, helicopters, etc., on single-ply manila folders. Creating the board tonight showed me just how much I still need to learn about creating a 2x4 panel foldable board. (The playing board looks okay. The back leaves a great deal to be desired.)

The City is not available in English. So, I bought the German version and modified for English. An English rule set has been posted by the creator Tom Lehmann http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/72118/english-prototype-ru... which I modified to use this version's graphics. I then used the paste-ups posted by petejacko http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/76097/english-card-paste-u.... I did not adhere the paste-ups to the cards. Instead, I put the cards in sleeves and taped the paste-ups to the inside of the sleeves. So, now just have to give the game a go!

Never really played a 4X game before. This looked like a good place to start. Most everything is mounted on 14 ply chipboard so far. The airship and warship units have been cut with a 5/8ths circle punch and stuck to translucent plastic chips. I'm about 45% done with cutting so far.

Have printed and played earlier versions, but I decided to print out the redesign by Malechi. I messed up on the double sided printing initially so now I have extra zombies!

Fun little solo game that is now in color and more portable.

Printed on cardstock.

I've played this game many times, but I finally got around to printing my own copy. I spent hours sitting at the paper cutter getting the slices to line up just right on my cards!

I also created some custom cards for the game to fit my game group's dirty sense of humor.

My office isn't too big on board games at work, so I printed up a few copies of this that I could play discreetly during my lunch break. I customized a die roller app on my phone (which seems to have some trouble with producing 6s) so that I can play without the clatter of dice.

I'm 0 for 4 on this board.

I also printed a nicer copy using Mekon's redesign. I laminated it so that I could play with a dry erase marker. (It's a little ink heavy for one time use.)

Board Game: Solo Dungeon Bash

Truth be told, I'm getting a little tired of the game. It gets fun once you have a few items and more dice are involved, but the first few ogre and wolf battles are incredibly tedious. I may need to take a break and come back to it later.

I've been thinking of writing a few reviews on small paper and pencil games that can be played at work.

I printed up the new edition of this. There are several new components so the updated rules are incompatible with the previous editions.

I've been meaning to write a review of Raider 16: Atlantis for my Reviews of the 2011 Solitaire Print and Play Contest project, but my school schedule just hasn't allowed me to focus on larger games much recently. So, this will probably be the next game to be reviewed.
