The Exhaustive List of Board Games You Can Play Online for Free
-
It happens to all of of us. Our gaming buddies get sick, our wives or husbands are at work or asleep, then it hits us at 10 p.m. on a Tuesday night - the board game craving. So what do we do? Solitaire games are for suckers (I kid!) and computer opponents all play the same. What we need is an internet friend and a way to play with them.
Hey, wait a minute. What games can we play online, anyway?
Let's find out!
GUIDELINES FOR POSTING:
* A link to the website where everyone can play.
* LEGAL and free options only, please!
* Please list options that are easy to access. If someone has to go through a tutorial on how to download fifteen modules and read three different languages, it's not a particularly great option in the first place. However, if it's that great of a place to play a game, and you feel it must be included, please include a link to both the website and the tutorial on how to access the game
* You are always welcome to include cheesy puns in your posts.
April 2020 Update: When I made this Geeklist in 2012, I didn't expect it to outlast some of the entries posted. This has grown beyond the point where I can patrol it for inactive links, but I also want to keep this Geeklist reasonably accurate and updated since the community has worked so hard on it. If you find entries that do not work and send me a message, I will do my best to remove them.
I also want to add an updated rule since the landscape of online board gaming has changed so drastically: If the game is free but on a buy-to-play platform (like Tabletop Simulator), please mention this in the entry so people know there is a program they already have to own. If you would rather not see these entries at all on this list, then please let me know as well.
