About Wits & Wagers Party
Wits & Wagers Party is the latest edition of the most award-winning party game in history. It is by far the best edition to give as a gift to your non-gamer friends and relatives over the holidays. Compared to the original game, Wits & Wagers Party has better graphics, higher quality components (thicker poker chips, erasers on the dry-erase pens, etc), lighter questions, and simpler rules.

This version makes the best gift for relatives, but click here to see if you should buy Wits & Wagers Party for your own game closet. Gamer opinions will vary on this issue.

BTW, the Table Top video of Wil Wheaton playing Say Anything just went live today! Some of it is VERY funny. Check it out here.

I'd also like to announce that our next release, Clubs, will be released in March 2013. It will be our first strategy game!

Note:
In the actual game of Wits & Wagers Party, you will have two betting tokens. You can bet on your answer, on someone else's answer, or split your bet between any two answers.

The player who writes the winning answer gets 1 point each round.

The 7th question is the final "all-in" round. You can bet your previous winnings on this question.

Should you buy Wits & Wagers Party for your own game closet?
This depends on what you are looking for in a party game. Let me first explain some of the changes:

1) The rules are simpler
2) There are no odds on the board
3) The game play is faster (because there is less accounting)
4) The components are better
5) The questions are lighter and funnier
6) There are only 250 questions (as opposed to 700)

The rule changes were made because the original Wits & Wagers is too complicated for your average Target customer. Many people get over-whelmed when they look at the rules.

Paying out the odds and returning poker chips to the bank takes too much time for many people. People want to have FUN with their party game, not wait around while someone counts out the chips.

The components are better. There is cool art by renowned artist Ali Douglas, the Answer Boards are more than twice as big, the poker chips are thicker and heavier (finally!), the dry-erase pens have erasers on them.

Most of the questions come from Wits & Wagers Expansion Pack 1, so don't get this version if you are looking for new questions and you already have the expansion! We chose the "best" questions for that expansion, re-wrote them for clarity, and updated the sources. These questions were chosen because they are lighter and more fun than the ones used in the original Wits & Wagers.

We included 35 games worth of questions in this edition (instead of 100 games) because that is more than enough for most people.

Reasons the Original is Better:
1) I like the odds. The added complication of ordering answers around the mean, and the extra time to payout is worth it for the extra strategic elements.
2) I will host the game when I play with non-gamers, so the extra complications will not be noticed by my guests.
3) I like the more academic questions from the original edition.
4) I will play the game more than 35 times.
5) I like the green felt mat.

Reasons This Edition is Better:
1) There is almost never a run-away leader.
2) The rule booklet is clean and simple. My grandma could read it and explain the game without difficulty.
3) The banker's job is easier, which makes the game play faster.
4) The lighter questions are more fun. More people laugh.
5) I like the components: thicker poker chips, erasers on the dry-erase pens, and bigger Answer Boards with fun art

Personally speaking, this is my favorite edition of Wits & Wagers. I don't play W&W very often with gamers, because I would rather play heavier games on those occasions. So W&W is a game I usually play with my extended relatives and non-gamer friends. When I host the original W&W, everyone has fun. But when I host W&W Party, everyone has fun AND people ask about where they can get the game. While non-gamers have fun with both version, W&W Party is a game they can see themselves pulling out on their own and playing.

With that said, I prefer the more academic questions of the original, probably because I am good at questions about famous composers, authors, scientists, inventions, etc. I also prefer the original W&W when I host the New Years Eve game at my parent's place each year. I enjoy the exuberant casino feeling of the big wins and the big loses. This is a party where people are milling around, drinking and socializing around a big board in the middle of the room, instead of sitting at a table. Everyone is having such a good time socializing that no one seems to notice the extra time it takes to payout and collect the bets.
