I have a tendency to get REALLY into some things when I figure them out. And when I get excited about them, I tend to go mental and berserk, leaving all sense of reason way behind...

H*ck, boardgaming is one of these things I figured out about two years ago. The result? 75 games in my collection - NOT counting expansions. I don't DARE think how much money I've spent on these - thankfully I just recently quit smoking - so at least I can try to convince myself that I'm saving up the money I've spent.

The latest thing I've come across was the finnish site Huuto.net (translation: "Yell.net") which is a finnish auction site similar to eBay. I found some boardgames I thought I could get cheap - TOTALLY forgetting about postage, and for a while I lost All Sense of Reason and bought too much... I don't regret it however, because I've found some really intresting games.

I've wanted a good, high-on-theme hack-n-slash for a while. The problem is - I've always had something against games requiring a game-master, which is why I've not bought DOOM, an otherwise great game.

Then I found this one, and I know it uses a game-master, but it's a classic, and I thought I could get it cheaper than DOOM. Well, I got it cheaper, but not a lot. Having made up my mind that I WANTED this game, I ended up paying a bit more than it's worth.

The game is not bad - per se - but it suffers from som heavy problems. The worst one being, the terrible dice. I LOVE the dice in DOOM - these are just bad... SC has some great ideas, for example having all players control more than one soldier. Which is good, because otherwise the GM has so much more to do in comparison with the players.

All in all, not a bad game, but I should have gone with DOOM (...or Descent)

Musketeers I bought because it was an old game and I was feeling retro - AND because I thought the theme was somewhat unusual... Having said that, WHY aren't there more games about musketeers out there? One would think you could get tons of great games out of it. Furthermore, after reading up on it here on BGG it sounded really intresting.

I got the game home, and found that it was still unpunched. The box had been opened and the components had been read through, but the chits were still in their sheets.

Reading through the rules I was really excited. It seemed unusual and even innovative. High on theme, and something of an intelligent hack-n-slash.

So far I've only played it once with my brother, and it was the introductory scenario. It was a bad scenario. And I still want to play some other, more advanced scenario before thinking the game in itself is bad.

I've always been a Trekkie, and seeing a game with Isaac Asimovs name on the box intrigued me, so I made an offer. And well, whattya know - I got the game.

As is the case with a lot of Steve Jackson Games (I admit, I haven't played THAT many of them...) it has some VERY intresting and clever ideas and mechanics, but somehow the game in itself doesn't deliver.

The game is high in theme, and the simple pick-up-and-deliver system fits like a glove. I enjoy the simple but clever space-jump mechanic, so about fifteen minutes into the game I was really enjoying myself.

So who-the-h.... came up with the endgame?! Basically throw a die to see if you get to do one last delivery for the emperor for the win? Aw, come on! I know there's an advanced game in here too, and the next time I manage to get some sci-fi geeks around the table we'll give it a go...

This one I bought simply for the theme. I've been intrested in sailing for a long time and this seemed to fit.

As with musketeers, by the way - why oh why aren't there more games with this theme.

I recently wrote a review about this one, so go read that one if you're intrested...

I found this Wolfgang Kramer game in the lists with no offers. So I made one offer and then completely forgot about it. About two weeks later I got an email saying I had won the game! What a pleasant surprise...

Got it home, opened the box and was pleasantly surprised. The components are FANTASTIC! The board and the tiles were top-notch and the little ships are surprisingly heavy, which always gives an impression of high quality.

The gameplay, then? Well, typical Ravensburger. A light, family game. I've only played it once, and two-player. This is clearly in the four-five player range. If I get that many family-gamers around the table I might give it a go.

Otherwise I'll give it away to somebody with a family of their own. Not a bad game, just not necessarily my kind of game.

This one has been my holy grail for the past fifteen years. Ever since I as a teenager saw this one I've wanted it. But I had never even SEEN it live. I was really happy to see that I had finally scored and even managed to pay enough to get it home.

On the other hand, I was worried - having sky-high hopes for a game is seldom a good thing, because very few games can truly reach the holy-grail-standard.

Well, making a long story short - I got the game, we set it up, read the rules, didn't understand them (clearly not written by anybody with even moderate skills in english), made up some house rules and played a match, was very disappointed, went online to get the rules written properly, tried again, WAS HOOKED!

This is a very tense game, and the soccer-feeling is sky-high. Let's just make one thing clear, though - I'm not a soccer fan, but that's not necessary to like this game. It's a dexterity-game. It's like Crokinole on speed. It's frantic, as both players are moving simultaneously, and there are no turns, but the attacking player can move as fast as he wants to, and the defender is really pressed for time trying to keep up.

My only fear now is that this is going to be a money-hole all on it's own. Not only am I spending money on boardgames, I fear I will start spending on this too. New pitch, new teams, new goals etc.

This is my new addiction

Just as I had planned to stop buying on the auction site, this one hit the corner of my eye. It was unpunched and a bargain.

But I had learned from my mistakes, and decided to check up on it before making an offer. Read through it here on BGG and decided to make a modest to low offer. I got it. Unpunched.

But because of the previous game (Subbuteo) it's still unplayed. I hope, not for long.
