List of Square Tile-Placement Games and the Size of the Tiles
- dave kinzer(whompy)United States
Earlier this year, annoyed at how some people would not line up the tiles perfectly in games like Carcassonne, I made a device that would make sure the tiles stayed organized and in place. I called them “Game Grids”.
(For more pictures, and if you want to add your comments/opinions about whether or not I should offer these up at Kickstarter, go to the post I put up in the DIY forum: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/856695/grid-for-organizi...)
Then I wondered, what other tile-placement games would also work with my Game Grids?
And that’s when I asked for help here at bgg.com. I asked you all to help me find other games that used tiles that were the same exact size at Carcassonne.
Thanks to all of you, I found four: Alhambra, Ark of the Covenant, Batt’l Kha’os, and Tile Chess.
You all also were extremely helpful in giving me the measurements of tiles used in other tile-placement games. Some of you asked me to share the results of my research, so here goes- Sorry it took me awhile to post it.
Measurements are in inches (I converted fractions to decimals)
.5 Robber Knights
1.234 Trax (current resin tile)
1.50 Aqua Romana
1.5625 Glen More
1.72 Gold Mine
1.77 Ark of the Covenant
1.77 Batt’l Kha’os
1.77 Tile Chess
1.85 Wooly Bully
1.95 El Caballero
1.96 Im Reich Der Jade Gotten
1.97 Wordspot (discovery edition)
2.00 Entdecker (thin)
2.50 Drakon (3rd edition) 2006
2.6876 Infinite City
I don’t have any info regarding the size of tiles in other shapes, like triangles, hexagon, or circles, etc.
If you know of any tile-placement games with square tiles that aren’t listed above, or if you see any errors, please speak up.
And I found Drewdle, Wend, Wheels of Steel, Micropul, Snake Pit, and Tiles, all of which are print & play games, which of course can be printed to any size.
Saboteur doesn’t use tiles, it uses cards the size of Magic cards.
Thanks for all your help in gathering this information.
Does anyone know the size of 4th Corner, Architekton, Atlantis, Vikings (2007), For the Win, Iron Horse, or Cable Car tiles?
